Born: Apr 04, 1948
Date of Passing: Mar 02, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHEILA VERVEEN GATZ It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Verveen (Moore) Gatz on Sunday, March 2, 2014. She is survived by her husband Richard; children: Dustin (Andrea) and their six children; Carey (Brenda) and their three children, and Tricia (James) Northcott and their four children; her mother, Rachel Moore, and her three brothers Dale Moore, Randy (Annette) Moore, and Sheldon (Peggy) Moore; along with nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her father, Gene Moore. Sheila was born April 4, 1948 in Lethbridge, AB, and spent her youth in Wrentham and Canyon, BC. She studied nursing at the Galt School of Nursing, graduating in 1970. She started her professional career in Bow Island, AB, where she met and married her sweetheart in 1972. In her married life, Sheila lived in Calgary and St. Albert, AB and Winnipeg, MB. She made many lasting friendships with people in the community and in her church along the way. She loved her 13 grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart. Another important member of her family was her dog of 14 and one half years, TJ. He was extremely protective of her and was her constant companion. Sheila was afflicted with severe rheumatoid arthritis for over 30 years. She faced this challenge like no other and if there was ever someone who trusted in the Saviour to face her afflictions it would be her. Despite the physical toll, she always had an enthusiastic smile on her face. Over the years she volunteered for her church in many capacities, teaching both children and youth Sunday School, as well as being the Akela in the Cub Scouts program. She was passionate about the Scouting program and loved to craft, especially with her grandchildren. We have peace knowing that she is no longer limited by her afflicted body and look forward to the day when we will see her again in our Father's presence. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 1:00 p.m., The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 45 Dalhousie Drive. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB. (204) 942-4892.

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Although it has been many years since I saw Sheila I will always remember what a sweet baby she was and how she grew into a beautiful young lady. I was fortunate to be able to spend time with her as she was growing up. - Posted by: Elaine Tudor (cousin) on: Mar 07, 2014

our sincere condolences to Richard and all his family. Sheila was a beautiful person inside and out, with a gentle and loving concern for all. She gave her best in everything she did. When Gord worked in the addictions program with Sheila and Richard, I tagged along, and we learned so much from her life, her challenges, her strengths. Her willingness to serve was amazing. Her spiritual feelings for Christ and what he has done for us was such an uplift to all. She had many of us in tears as she bore her testimony. She was an anchor of strength for those searching for answers. Her gentle loving and kind heart will be missed. She is now with those who have passed beyond the veil to a much better place. We loved her dearly. Our prayers & thoughts are with all the family. - Posted by: Gordon and Audrey Holmes (friend) on: Mar 07, 2014

Sister Gatz inspired me with her strength, when I was weak. She taught me to smile on the outside, to brighten another's day, even when I was crying on the inside. She loved me unconditionally, when others may have not. She was loved by everyone she met, and they were loved and in her prayers, always. I am sorry for the family's loss, but rejoice in her being relieved from her pain. 'Til we meet again, Sheila. She laughed, smiled, shared great knowledge, and welcomed strangers with open arms. For the short time I came to know her, never heard her complain of her physical state but rather embraced life and was interested in others. Her recent departure will create a vacuum but at the same time it will fill a spot on the other side where she now serves. She was a remarkable woman and an example of patience, virtue and kindness. She always had a smile and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be missed by her family and friends but will no longer suffer from the debilitating disease she suffered from for so long. We were truly blessed to know her.
