Born: Jul 31, 1941
Date of Passing: Mar 05, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPATRICIA GALE SISCO July 31, 1941 - March 5, 2014 I chose to write my own obituary, as it gives me the chance to have a last word. I have found that life is so very, very short, and it seems like we have only the opportunity to pay a visit. However, in that short visit, I experienced many wonderful things, and in fact, a glorious life. My early years were filled with play and family life. I had the opportunity to go to regular school, and graduate with some of the most wonderful people you could imagine. To my teachers, I thank you for the good instruction, and the great expectations you had of me. Unfortunately, I lost my father (Galeon Guy) at an early age (56). My mother also passed away. Sandra Lee (Webb), my sister and friend, recently passed. I am survived by my sisters Brenda Sisco and her daughters Amanda and Meaghan, Catherine Vera and her two children Tyler and Sabrina, and her husband Pascal Menezes. I am also survived by Sandra Lee's husband Laurie and daughter Laureen. I could not begin to name all the aunts, uncles, and cousins who have given me unlimited support. My life has been full. I survived getting my bachelor's degree from Bishop's University, as well as my master's degree from McGill University. I worked for 20 years in the field of rehabilitation, working with children with disabilities and their parents. These individuals taught me more than the two universities combined. Many thanks, to all of you. During my 20 years of work, I served on many boards and government committees. For this service, I received the Premier's Volunteer Service Award. But the real fun in my life came in traveling. I had the good fortune to travel to France, England, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Moscow, Copenhagen, Sweden, Oslo, The Netherlands, Mexico, and believe it or not, about 30 times to Hawaii. There are many other places I would have liked to visit, but time did not allow me. My short visit has come to an end, and I hope each and every one of you make the most of every minute. Farewell. Whoops, my last words are, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alan Simpson Memorial Fund at the Winnipeg Foundation, 1350-1 Lombard Place, Winnipeg, MB. Alan was a very good friend of mine, who made a tremendous contribution to the lives of the disabled worldwide. Pat Pat and her family would like to thank Sherilyn Paragas, Gail Perrier, Marie Collantes, Christine Riese, Anna Barseghyan and Len Ang for their dedication and support. These wonderful people made it possible for Pat to live independently and on her own terms. A gathering to celebrate Pat's life and contributions to our community is being planned for May with details to be published at a later date.

I was in the same class as Pat through high school and when she was going to McGill. We lost touch after she went to Winnipeg. I admire her for her rising above all her difficulties and accomplishing so much in her life. My husband and I went to high school with Pat and in the past couple of years made contact with her. We visited her in her Winnipeg apartment most recently in January of this year. She was an amazing individual - strong, courageous, compassionate, intelligent, motivated and determined to live her life as fully and independently as possible despite her significant physical challenges that were the result of polio. We will remember her with admiration forever.l - Posted by: Wendy and Dick White (High school friend) on: Mar 19, 2014

Pat was my big sister, she used to tell me the best stories to help me fall asleep when I was a little girl. I am so proud of what she accomplished during her visit here. She was a stubborn, loving, very smart woman. When she ran into a block she would find a way to break it down, even by going on live TV to prove her point. I am so glad that I made a point of visiting her the past few years and spending time talking about family and old times. I will miss her weekly phone calls. - Posted by: Catherine Menezes (Sisco) (Sister) on: Mar 11, 2014

I have known Pat for many years and have admired her work and commitments to the community of persons with disabilities. Pat had a passionate attitude towards self-determination for all persons and displayed this attitude throughout her work life and in volunteer initiatives. She made a very positive difference in the lives of many people. Pat also enjoyed the outdoors, walks in the sunshine, she loved children and she loved to travel as is evident in her obituary. Rest in peace, Pat. - Posted by: Clare Simpson (Friend) on: Mar 09, 2014

My mother and myself met Patricia Sisco when she was the Riverwalk Condominium Board President. She was a most competent, intelligent, perceptive person, whose friendship was an honour. - Posted by: Tim Sayeau (friend) on: Mar 09, 2014

I worked with Pat many years ago. She was a quiet, tough, honest and committed person who believed in "the cause" with a passion. I have thought about her over the years and am sad to hear of her passing. Rest in peace Pat. You lived a hard life. - Posted by: Marsha Dozar (Colleague) on: Mar 08, 2014
