MONICA MICHELE SMITH (THACH)
Date of Passing: Mar 04, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMONICA MICHELE SMITH (nee THACH) After a long, hard fought battle with cancer that began in 2002, on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, I left to be with Larry, my loving husband. I leave behind my son Wayne (Charlene) and daughter Belinda (Shawn) Meseman; grandchildren Caroline and Kyle Smith, Shayne Smudj and Marcail Meseman; great-granddaughter Chloe Smith and great-grandson Mavryk Smudj; siblings May Johnston; Jane McDonald, Jim Thach and Kitty Thach; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. I also go to meet up with my Mom, Anne Holm (Thach), my Dad, Mickey Thach; sisters Penny Janz and Patsy Thach; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. I was born in Geraldton, Ontario, but raised in Winnipeg where I lived until Larry, the kids and I moved to Lethbridge and then Calgary. We returned to Winnipeg because home is where the heart is. I enjoyed all sporting events, watching our son play baseball, hockey and curling and watching our daughter Belinda play ringette and in parades with the Actionettes. I loved spending time with family and friends watching sporting events, school concerts and activities, getting together for BBQs, picnics and church luncheons. I also enjoyed playing bingo and bowling where I'm proud to say I won the Provincials and then went on to the Nationals and received the Sportsmanship Award for Manitoba. I was involved in Cancer Connection, the Relay for Life, Breast Cancer Walk and an active member of my church, Pilgrim Baptist. One of my pastimes was going to pick fruit or vegetables and I always thought of my fellow man or woman and would take them along. Along with raising my family, I worked full time and also managed numerous apartment blocks. I worked for the City of Winnipeg, Welfare Department, from the 1960's to early 1970's and was employed as a Youth and Family Worker for Childrens Aid; Support Worker for Pulford for Community Living and also for Comfort Keepers. As the years passed by I retired from work in 2010 to look after Larry, returning to work in 2012. Numerous hours were spent debating our homecare system to anyone who would listen, to try and improve it for others as I couldn't change the system for Larry. I was a strong supporter of the mentally challenged. Throughout my life, my careers and activities I met many lifelong friends and associates. Some may not have known I had a sense of humour but I did, even though it was sometimes a little off, the closest to me understood it and it helped to lift the mood. I would like to thank my sister Kitty for her support after Larry passed away and for helping me get things ready. As most people will know - I was never one to miss a funeral ----- so don't miss mine! My service will be held at my church, Pilgrim Baptist, 41 Maple Street, on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. with a luncheon to follow at the church. Larry and I will be interred with my sister Patsy at Brookside Cemetery at a later date. Til We Meet Again Love your Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister, Auntie, Cousin and Friend The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Seven Oaks Hospital for the compassion and care they showed Monica and her family during this time. Voyage Funeral Home in care of arrangements. 204-668-3151.

Last time I seen Monica is at my home and told me it was the end for her, nothing they could do, I asked r u okay with this she told me yes I'm not afraid Rose. she always called me Rose, she said her children were responsible adults and they would be fine. hard working lady right till the end, her family always came first, she also told me she would be happy to see her family and her husband that she loved so much, I told her I was scared of death and she tried to assure me it's beautiful. I love the obituary u wrote it describes it all May God Be With You R.I.P. Monica Smith till we meet again. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Rosita (Sister in law) on: Mar 09, 2014

So sorry to hear the loss of Monica. Bob and I used to be in the same bowling lanes (mosienko's on main). We used to run into Monica and Larry at the Casinos sometimes. We would always stop and chat. I know how lost she must have been with out her partner (larry). They are now together. May she rest in peace. I wish I could attend her service but am in Arizona right know. - Posted by: Bernice & Bob Cardinal (Friends) on: Mar 08, 2014
