DORIS ADAIR (nee HOOEY) July 17, 1958 - March 7, 2014 After a two and a half year hard fought battle with cancer Doris passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Doris faced cancer with incredible strength and grace. Our hearts are heavy, there is a huge void left in our lives, but her suffering has ended and we take comfort in that. Doris is survived by her loving husband Brian; daughter Marcy (Matt Hodges); son Carl; parents Stuart and Audrey; sisters Merle (Romeo Pittet) and Glenda (Albert Lesage); brothers Russell (Lesley) and Murray (Joanne); along with many nieces and nephews. Doris was an amazing woman all around who lived life to the fullest. Family, friends, and fun were her top priorities. She was the hostess with the mostess and had a very busy social calendar. Doris was the type of person who couldn't just listen when there was a problem she needed to advise, act or solve. She lit up every room she went in and made a huge first impression. She was a very special lady to many and was playfully known as Auntie Do. The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion. Flowers are gratefully declined, memorial donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or Riverview Health Centre, One Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4. A celebration of Doris' life will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • I have a huge amount of respect for Doris, both as a colleague and as a wonderful person. She helped train me when I joined Core-Mark in Calgary and was my go-to person whenever I needed help. God Bless you Doris. You are in a better place. - Posted by: Dilip Krishna (ex-Colleague from Core-Mark) on: Nov 27, 2015

  • Our deepest sympathies to the Adair and Hooey families. We will miss the energy and enthusiasm that Doris brought, everywhere she went. When we lose a loved one here on earth, we gain an angel in heaven that watches over us. May you take comfort in knowing that you have an angel to watch over you now. - Posted by: Jack & Sandy Smart () on: Mar 16, 2014

  • I have many memories of visiting Uncle Stewart and Aunt Audrey and 'the cousins', but as an adult, I heard many stories of one of my dad's special cousins, and Doris was mentioned often. Doris' humor and kindness clearly came across, as did her strength and grace during her illness. She became an example of how to deal with life's challenges with a smile and a special courage. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family. Christine Hooey - Posted by: Christine Hooey (2nd cousin) on: Mar 12, 2014

  • I had the pleasure of getting to know Doris through my sister Gisele. She became known as our "other sister Doris". She really had a "joie de vivre" and her presence will be surely missed. My deepest sympathies to Brian and family. - Posted by: Leonne Bilodeau (Family friend) on: Mar 12, 2014

  • Doris, the first time I met you was a party at your house that Marcy was throwing. You and Brian came in after a night out and I thought, oh this must be Marcy's parents. You opened right up to the group teasing everyone and making me laugh out loud! I'm so happy to have met such a hilarious, blunt, beautiful person! Much love to the Adair / Hodges family <3 - Posted by: Brigitte Craig (Friend) on: Mar 12, 2014

  • I felt privileged to have "other sister Doris"....loved visiting her at home or at Gisèle's when I'd come from Montreal. She was an inspiration! Will miss her a lot! - Posted by: Doris Bilodeau ("other sister Doris") on: Mar 11, 2014

  • Even though she fought a tremendously tough battle, Doris was there to offer strength and encouragement, as well as lend an ear when we needed it this past year. That's just who she was. She will be missed by all who loved and cared for her. Our hearts go out to you Brian, and your family, and wish we could eliminate your pain. - Posted by: Craig & Gail Cudmore (Friend) on: Mar 11, 2014

  • Such a lovely tribute to Doris. She truly fought with grace & courage, and still was so caring to others and their problems. Such a wonderful friend, & Mother. We know she will be missed by all. - Posted by: Reg & Julie Jenkins (Friends) on: Mar 11, 2014

  • It was a pleasure getting to know you Doris. Spent many times in your garage where you opened your home to Marcy's friends, and made us all feel so welcome and like part of the family. Your beautiful daughter carries your spirit and will remind me of you always xoxox - Posted by: Anita King (Friend) on: Mar 11, 2014

  • My deepest sympathy Brian, Marcy and Matt and Carl. Doris was one very special lady, far too young to have suffered this much. Life is just not fair. - Posted by: Jo-Anne Williams (Friend) on: Mar 11, 2014
