ERNEST STANLEY PARSONS December 20, 1920 - March 7, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce Ernest Stanley Parsons passed away on March 7, 2014. Ernest is predeceased by parents James and Hazel Parsons, and great-granddaughter Evelyn. Ernest is survived by his younger sister June Barlow. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Clara, son James (Annita), son Donald (Roberta), daughter Barbara (Richard) and son Raymond (Penny). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Thurman, Olivia (Corbin), Matthew (Brandy), Charlotte, Victoria (Darcy), Llewellyn (Charmaine), Samuel (Ashley), Daniel (Katherine), Bethany and Benjamin. He will also be fondly remembered by great-grandchildren Michael, Elisha, Octavia, Maxim and Patrick. His memory will be cherished by many more family members and fellow worshipers. Ernest was a dynamic individual. He worked on his father's fishing boat off the coast of Vancouver as a young man. During wartime he took his stand as a conscientious objector and was interned in a work camp in British Columbia. There he learned the truth and became one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Throughout the years he enjoyed the loving support of his Grand Creator and the warm brotherhood of Jehovah's people. Ernest married Clara in 1946 and they had four children. He worked as sales manager for the Fuller Brush Company for 30 years. He was a wonderful provider. He lived a full life with many hobbies and interests. He was an active grandfather, a tinker mechanic, biking enthusiast, ballroom dancer, and outgoing neighbour. He enjoyed Symphony Orchestra outings, playing baseball and cards. Literacy meant a lot to Ernest and he supported his local library. Ernest loved good food and good conversation. He had a hearty laugh and contagious enthusiasm. Ernest loved to take photographs, this being a long family tradition that began at the turn of the century. He kept boxes of old photos and put together family heritage albums for his family because it meant a lot to him that they know their roots. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Ernest believed in God's promise to bring the dead back to life with renewed health in a peaceful new world. We look forward to seeing Ernest in paradise! Many thanks to the loving brothers and sisters of South Transcona Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, home care and the caring staff of the Concordia Hospital. Ernest's funeral will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 930 Pandora Ave. West.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • My dad wrote down an adventure that I would like to relate. Aboard his fathers ship called the "Agnes C" in the late fall of 1943 he was part of a six man crew bringing a catch of cod back to port. His father Captain James Parsons was not able to make this trip. They were off the point of Price Island BC when their boat hit a rogue wave (apparently called a swell). As the front of the boat slamned down onto the water from the top off the wave the hull sprung some planks. In the amount of time it took to write this sentence the engine room was full of water so they got into the dory to cast off as the boat sank. They never had time to get their personal belongings but were able to grab some food, drink, matches and a rifle with shells. They made it to Price Island and on the third day, two of the crew members rowed the life boat accross Milbanke Sound to Rob Point where a ship called the Crosbie returned 8 hrs later to Price Island and picked up the cast aways. My dad enjoyed relating the comoradery of the crew and had fond memorories of the ship which his dad owned and captained for many years. His father captained someone elses vessel after that and that was the last time Ernie enjoyed working with his father aboard his own ship. My dad had many life experiences he liked to tell so I thought you would like this one too. I miss him and hope to see him again in Jehovah's Kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for in the Lords Prayer. His son Ray - Posted by: Ray Parsons (son) on: Apr 06, 2014

  • I did not know Ernie well, although I got to know him a little more over the past year as he and Clara moved into our congregation. My first meeting with Ernie was when I was working a construction job with Ray and Ernie showed up to give Ray a hand. I cannot rememer the exact conversation, but Ray was disagreeing with Ernie about something. Ernie had had enough of the conversation at which point he told Ray, "Ray, I brought you into this world and I can take you out." My brother Todd and I gave Ray a hard time about that and we brought it up often. I will never forget that moment. My condolences to your family Ray, from the MacLeod family. - Posted by: Trent MacLeod (Friend) on: Mar 25, 2014

  • Hello, my name is Ron Charlton. I am a cousin of Ernie's and I live in Rock Creek, B.C. I have a lot of wonderful memories of Ernie in years gone by. Back in 1938 Ernie took my brother Stan and I to see the first showing of THE WIZARD OF OZ which we will never forget!Later in 1947 Ernie and Clara stopped in to visit in Rock Creek and while here took the oil pan off his Model "A" Ford (which had been his Grandfathers car)and adjusted the connecting rod bearings before heading for NEW YORK CITY to a convention. I don't know how many miles this round trip was but in a 1929 FORD it was quite a trip. Over the years we have had many great visits with the family, some at reunions, which we will never forget. We will miss Ernie very much! What a personality!! RON, ANN and the rest of the CHARLTON FAMILY - Posted by: RONALD CHARLTON (COUSIN) on: Mar 14, 2014

  • I remember your dad so well, I stayed with him and aunt Clara when I was 6, I remember the excellent cooking all from the garden. I got to take Jimmie York a buggy ride and I went to far and got into a bit of trouble. Then Ernie came to visit when I was 11 he ate everything in the fridge and insisted on making donuts, which messed up my moms kitchen. He visited my husband and I in the late 70s and fixed everything that needed fixing. It was so nice of him to visit mom one year and fix things for her and take her around to visit the other relatives. I was in Winnipeg 2 years ago and phoned him numerous times and left messages, but he did not return my call. We wanted to take him for breakfast or a coffee. Condolences Clara and your family. Sherrie Viberg. My mom has demetia and is in a home, I talked to the social worker at the home today and he will tell her the sad news. - Posted by: Sherrie Viberg and June Barlow (Niece and sister) on: Mar 11, 2014
