ELVINA MARGARET KARLOWSKY Peacefully, after a brief struggle with cancer, Elvina Margaret Karlowsky drew her last breath and was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on March 10, 2014. She was preceded by her husband Robert Karlowsky; her parents Gus and Olga (Halverson) Grabowski and brother Herbert Grabowski. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Kolleen Karlowsky-Clark (Owen Clark) and son Leslie Karlowsky; grandchildren Stephanie Blanchette (Dan), Christopher Picklyk (Wendy), Jocelyn Karlowsky-Massey (Keith) and Kathleen Whyte (Dustin); great-grandchildren Rheannon and Shaundrea Blanchette, Hazel and William Picklyk; Katlyn and Julia Massey with extended family members and friends. Elvina was born in Sanford, Manitoba on January 14, 1923. She was baptized, confirmed and later married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Brunkild, MB. Elvina grew up working on the family farm and attended public school in Brunkild and business college in Dauphin. She also worked at her uncle's gas station, and as a telephone operator in Sanford and at the general store and the post office in Brunkild. She married Robert and continued to farm near Brunkild raising her two children. Elvina enjoyed hosting family dinners, whist parties, gardening and curling, as well as spending time with her grandchildren. In the 1980s, they moved to Charleswood, where she worked in a daycare, card shop and Zellers. Even into her 80s, she still helped out babysitting her great-grandchildren making them their favourite "crap dinner" and covering their fruit with "snow" icing sugar. Elvina enjoyed trying her hand at many different crafts over the years including Christmas decorations, paper tolling and knitting. She even knit blankets that went over-seas through CLWR. In these last years, she had enjoyment in giving the "little ones" rides on her walker. We love you and miss you Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Vina. The family thanks the staff at Thorvaldson's for their care over the past two years. A special thanks to the staff in Palliative Care at the St. Boniface Hospital for all their care during the final days. Memorial donations can be made to Palliative Care at St. Boniface General Hospital. Immediate cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2014 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, MB.
