DAVID PELTZ January 13, 1916 - March 12, 2014 David was born in Zamosc, Poland, the second of five children. As a youth he worked with his father with animal hides. At age 23 he was conscripted into the Polish army. He returned home when Poland fell to the Nazis. As a Jewish man, with the Nazis invading, he fled to Russian held territories. Elka (Lichtman) also fearful and a long time friend accompanied him. It was a bond born out of wartime necessity. They married on December 31, 1939. They faced immeasurable hardships in their fight for survival. On his return to his home, he discovered his whole family had perished in Majdanek concentration camp. Immigrating to Canada in 1950, David worked at several jobs and eventually with his wife's support opened a grocery store. A self described workaholic, he focused on providing a better life for his family. Upon retirement he rekindled his involvement in Judaism. He joined the "Stay Young" choir; wrote and recited his own stories and poetry on CKJS Jewish radio program. He was a voracious reader, debater and follower of current events. He also enjoyed "Mama Loschen" group and Gwen Sector. David's legacy is his family; Sonia (Harold) Kaplan, Esther (Sam) Plucer, Shelly (Steve) Davis; grandchildren, Marnie (Darren) Bondar, Tamara and Rebecca Plucer, Jill Davis, Haley (Trevor) Nace and two great-grandchildren, Jonah and Chloe Bondar; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son born in Siberia in 1940, his daughter Anne Moyle in 1973 and his wife Elka on October 27, 2013. Many thanks to the staff at the Simkin Centre. Funeral services were held March 12, 2014. Honoring David were pallbearers, Sam Plucer, Jack Lichtman, Jason Lichtman, Craig Osman, Neil Kaplan and Colin Hornby. DAVID PELTZ On Wednesday, March 12, 2014 David Peltz passed away at the Simkin Centre. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at the Chesed Shel Emes Chapel, 1023 Main Street. Interment to follow at the B'nai Abraham Cemetery.
