Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHAROLD EARL SHERRITT May 27, 1911 - March 13, 2014 Peacefully at home, Harold passed away at the age of 102 years. He is survived by his daughters Dianne (Lewis) Cardin, Joanne (Ian) Moore, and Marian (Bill) Evans, and his sons Harold/Sam (Brenda), and John Sherritt. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jennifer (John) Rogers, Nicole (Ric) McKerracher, Sharon (Nick) Pypops, David Moore (Susan Green), Adam, Darin, Ryan, Lauren and Aryn Sherritt; great-grandchildren Noah, Emily, Aiden, Mark, Kate, Xavier and Finnlea, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years, Lily, and just last month by his second wife of 20 years, Irene. Harold was born in 1911 in Newton Siding, MB. He attended school in Elm River and Portage la Prairie. He was an avid ball player in the district. In 1943 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served on the flight line in Claresholm and Edmonton, AB. After his discharge in 1945, Harold moved to Winnipeg and began his 30 year career with the C.P.R. In 1947 he built Sherritt's Grocery with his wife, Lily. He was a faithful member of Sparling United Church and later Sturgeon Creek United Church. After his retirement in 1976 he and Lily spent many winters in Weslaco, TX and they enjoyed many, many summers at their cottage in Malachi, ON. He loved woodworking and enjoyed working in the CNIB woodworking shop as well as on his own basement workbench. In 1993, Harold married Irene Clawson. For the past seven years, they loved life at the Sturgeon Creek II Retirement Residence. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21 at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., with Rev. Dr. Michael Wilson officiating. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the CNIB or a charity of their choice.
