Date of Passing: Mar 11, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLLIE (OLGA) GOODES 1930 - 2014 Beloved Wife. Mother. Grandmother. Friend. You gave joy and strength to all you touched. We honour the life of Ollie Goodes who passed away suddenly from medical complications on March 11, 2014 while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Ollie was born on a farm in Wishart, SK and received her education at the local school. As a young woman, she studied hairdressing in Calgary. Later she worked at the Nu Fashion Salon in Brandon, MB where she met and married her husband John in June 1957. In 1963, they moved to Winnipeg, MB. Ollie was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young and was actively involved in volunteer work with the YMCA, church groups and Pregnancy Distress Service in Winnipeg. In 1976 the family moved to Ottawa. With her sons growing up, she obtained the position of Director of Volunteer Services at the Glebe Centre in Ottawa. She loved being a part of the large senior's residence where she in turn was loved and respected by all. In 1989, Ollie and John retired to Abbotsford, BC and in 1997 they returned to Winnipeg to be closer to family. Ollie was a very wise and practical person who saw the good in people and was willing to help anyone who came in contact with her. Everyone loved her smile and her contagious, positive attitude. Her cooking was a treat to all. Ollie was a progressive woman at home and at work. She strongly believed in lifelong learning and was ahead of her time in using alternative healing and was one of the first seniors to get on the internet in the early 1990s. An avid reader, she was interested in many subjects including current events, interpersonal skills, spirituality and even sports (especially curling and football). It was important to Ollie to be continually evolving as a person and she set a strong example as an amazing mother, grandmother and role model to many people. In the 1990s Ollie and John travelled to Bolivia and Romania doing volunteer work. Ollie loved traveling to visit family and looked forward to vacationing in warm places including Myrtle and Virginia Beaches, Hawaii, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Cuba. Ollie is survived by John, her husband of 57 years; her sons Mark, Don and Jeff; daughters-in-law Erin and Anne-Marie; grandchildren Terra and Gloria Léger-Goodes, and Ben and Amy Goodes; as well as her sister Anne Degelman. She was predeceased by sisters Helen Haverluk, Josie Wishniki, Alice Laforrest and Stella Stewart, and brothers Peter and Eddie Moroz. The funeral service will be held at St. Elijah Romanian Orthodox Church in Lennard (Inglis), MB, Wednesday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m. with interment in the parish cemetery. A luncheon will follow. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Ollie may be made to the St. Elijah Pioneer Cemetery Fund, Inglis, MB R0J 0X0 or http://stelijahpioneermuseum.ca/donate.php Remembrance and condolences may be emailed to bbfs@mymts.net Loving and lovely wife, mother, grandmother and friend, we celebrate your amazing life. You were a beautiful force. You will be sadly missed. Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service of Russell is in care of arrangements. (204) 773-2747
