HUGH ADAMS It is with deep sadness that Denny and Jeffrey announce the passing of their beloved Hugh on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the age of 72 years. Left to mourn Hugh are his loving wife Denny; son and best pal Jeffrey. Niece Lorraine; nephews Scott and Andrew; mother-in-law Ruth; father-in-law Claire; brother-in-law Darrell; great-nieces and nephews, as well his dog Winston will also miss him. He was predeceased by his father Hugh; mother Margaret; brother John (Fern); sister May, and wife Jeanann. Hugh was born in Scotland on August 29, 1941, and lived in Winnipeg since moving to Canada in 1966. His love for music was infectious and a constant in his life. Hugh's passion for entertaining led him on several journeys with many talented musicians, but his real love was performing on cruise ships with Denny. Hugh's profession for many years as an interior decorator played on his creative side and introduced him to many lifelong friends. A Celebration of Hugh's Life and music will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 3:00 p.m., at the ANAF Unit 283, 3584 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg. A gathering of family and friends will follow. In lieu of flowers, and in Hugh's gracious style, please pay it forward. Wojcik's Winnipeg Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Ave., 204-897-4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (15 entries)

  • Denny, I'm so sorry. I didn't know, until now. I would have been on the road. I am at home and was listening to your and Hugh's albums, as I often do, and thought, facebook will find them. My heartfelt condolences, Denny. He will have a great back-up band up there! - Posted by: CY MACDONALD (Good Friend) on: Oct 28, 2014

  • Hugh, I figure Frank Sinatra will be put off with your arrival as his competition has finally arrived. I know you were one of his fans, but just letting you know we were your fans. Miss you my friend. - Posted by: Dennis Mazur (friend) on: Apr 01, 2014

  • Oh my goodness, so many memories. Jeff, I was with your Mom the night she met Hughie (I KNOW you've heard this story a Thousand times -I could have been your Mother!!) lol. He got us under his spell with his rendition of "Raindrops Keep Fallin on my Head". Many good times with your folks - too many hangovers to count - ah, youth! Most dapper dresser I ever knew! And how he loved mince and tatties and meat pies! Farewell my friend! My thoughts are with you Jeff - how I wish I could attend his celebration! I will be there in spirit! Please give me a call or email - I think of you often! Love, Auntie Carlyne - Posted by: Carlyne Murphy (Old Friend) on: Mar 23, 2014

  • I was not fortunate enough to meet Hugh but I am certain that his voice would have brought me joy much in the same way Jeff’s has over the past 6 years. Jeff, you’ve been in my thoughts since I learned of your Dad’s passing. I am glad to know that you are surrounded by people who care about you at this time. When my Dad’s health was uncertain last Fall, your occasional check-ins meant so much to me. Thank you. Stay strong :) - Posted by: SM () on: Mar 21, 2014

  • It saddens me that I have lost my very good friend Hugh. I met Hugh through his wonderful wife Denny several years ago. I had the pleasure of being Hugh's drummer in the Nite Life Band as well as The Classix Band. He was not only a wonderful singer and entertainer but also had personality plus. Also one of the classiest dressers I have ever met both in public and on stage. It was an honor and my pleasure to have knowN Hugh Adams. - Posted by: Douglas MacFarlane (friend and fellow musician) on: Mar 18, 2014

  • I met Hughie through my best friend/singer Jeff Adams. He would visit our band while we performed in the clubs and would cast his graceful happiness upon us, lighting up the dingiest of venues when he'd pop his head back stage and say (Insert Scottish accent)" ATOMIC CANDY YEEEEAHHHHH!" Our thoughts are with Jeff and Denny in this sad time. - Posted by: Chris Allarie (Friend) on: Mar 17, 2014

  • I met Hughie through Denny several years ago, I used to sing with Night Life for several months, but one of the first times I heard Hughie with that wonderful voice, I was hooked. His vocals were awesome, so rich and vibrant and I often thought, wow, I sure wish I could sing like him. Now, every-time I hear a Neil Diamond song on the radio, I automatically think of Hughie. Its amazing how Neil Diamond sounds so much like Hughie when he sings. hehe. I will miss you my friend, and now the angels in Heaven will have another voice to add to the choir. - Posted by: Ron Marcyniuk (Friend) on: Mar 16, 2014

  • My family lived next door to Hughie, Pearl, May and Lorraine. They were the best neighbours ever and John and Hugh were there a lot. Jeffrey remember you had Santa visit and being so scared of Doctor Who? You are all in heaven together now xx - Posted by: Carol Livingstone (Friend) on: Mar 16, 2014

  • Hugh was a great addition to our family and we will all miss his humour and fun loving presence.. He was a wonderful and loving companion to my sister and to all of our family. On a daily basis and family get togethers Hugh will be sorely missed. Bon Voage Hugh, from all of us! The Wyatts - Posted by: Darrell Wyatt (Brother in law) on: Mar 16, 2014

  • My dear friend you are with the angels now singing with the choir, I miss our regular visits with our scotch, you will always be with me, God bless you - Posted by: Jim Barratt (Friend) on: Mar 15, 2014

  • I am so sorry for your loss Jeffrey. I have such wonderful memories of all of the adventures, parties, get togethers and karaoke nights at the Norwood with the other five musketeers. His love of music, his love of people, his compassion and his sense of humour will not be forgotten--I can still hear him laugh. He was such a true gentleman-- nobody could wear a tuxedo and 'shiny shoes' like he could. My heart is very sad with you. Big hug. • I worked at Yamaha Winnipeg with Denny and I would call their home often. If Denny was not home when I telephoned, I ended up having some lovely conversations with Hugh. He had a great sense of humour! I only met Hugh once but he made such an impression on me! A truly loving, compassionate and delightful man! He will be sadly missed. So sorry for your loss, Denny. - Posted by: Teresa and Edson Sanecki (friends) on: Mar 15, 2014

  • I will miss you every day, my love. Thank you for being such a wonderful person and looking after me all these years. I felt so special to be a part of your life. You were the kindest man I ever knew, and your love for animals was truly amazing. I know that we will be together again someday and until that day, your song will sing through me. I love you so much! Love…Denny xoxox - Posted by: Denny Adams (Wife) on: Mar 15, 2014

  • Hugh has played a huge part in my life as a friend and singing partner. He was clearly the classiest singing partner I've ever worked with and a man of great talent. His distinguished heart was made of gold and I will forever miss him. Love, one of your beloved angels, Denise - Posted by: Denise Comeault (Friend and singing partner and one of Hugh's angels) on: Mar 15, 2014
