LORNE MACLURE Tuesday, March 11, 2014 Lorne Stewart MacLure passed away March 11, 2014 aged 89 years. He was predeceased by his brother Donald. His wonderful spirit lives on in his loving family: his wife of 69 years, Myra; his four children, Maxine (Gordon Watts), Brian (Anne Lester), Judi (Robert Carmichael), and Jamie (Ranata); 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Born in 1924 in Swan River, Manitoba, Lorne served as a bombardier in the R.C.A.F. at the end of the Second World War, then entered the University of Manitoba on the Veterans' Plan, qualifying as a Professional Civil Engineer. He leaves an enduring legacy of major construction and engineering projects including his extensive work for Manitoba Hydro, the Warsak Colony Dam in Pakistan, the Hugh Keenleyside Dam in Castlegar, as well as the Mission Bridge and the Skytrain. Lorne was instrumental in setting up the Abbotsford Minor Hockey Association and served as its first President. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations will be used to create a lasting memorial to Lorne through the Abbotsford Parks Gift Program.
