ALLAN DAVID GOLDSTINE Passed away peacefully on March 11, 2014 surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of nearly 64 years Jennie, his children Marc (Robyn), Ian (Elaine), and Lawrence. Also left to mourn are his grandchildren; Jacque (Tyler), Daniel, Steven (Jani), Jason (Gen), Kyle, his sister Enid and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father Irv and mother Fannie. Dad's funeral took place on Thursday, March 13, 2014. Pallbearers were Daniel Goldstine, Steven Goldstine, Jason Goldstine, Kyle Goldstine, Aaron Margolis, and Josh Slayen. Honourary pallbearers were David Margolis and Alvin Slayen. Dad began his journey on March 15, 1928, and grew up in the West End. He met the love of his life in 1949 and married Mom on May 17, 1950. Due to the fact that one of the floods of the century hit Winnipeg that spring, Mom and Dad were forced to get married in Regina. Over the next dozen years the family would grow with the arrival of Marc in 1952, Ian in 1955 and Lawrence in 1962. Dad's career was varied. Activities included the family clothing business, his own Chartered Accountancy practice, auditor for Retail Sales Tax, Associate Controller at the U of M, Real Estate Agent, and Chief Financial Officer at the Universities Grants Commission. One of Dad's greatest acts was the purchase of 25 2nd Ave. in Gimli in June of 1963. For the next 50 years, Gimli would provide our family with many treasured memories. For Mom and Dad Gimli would become their magical full time retirement community for 21 years. They made many wonderful friends and enjoyed each and every moment of those years. Their other heavenly abode included many winters in Gimli South, better known as Palm Springs. Dad also had a good sense of when it was time to move back to Winnipeg in order to be closer to family. Mom and Dad moved back to Winnipeg this past July and we are grateful we got to spend the last eight months of his life so close to him. Dad was a very determined individual and whenever life would knock him down he would get right back up. This would be the trademark of his battle with cancer. Never one to give up, he fought on to the end. It was one more lesson Dad would teach us. A very special thank you to Rabbi Green for a beautiful eulogy, and for helping the family through this most difficult time. We are grateful to all his doctors, nurses and the many medical professionals that cared for Dad in Gimli, Palm Springs and Winnipeg. A special thank you to all doctors, nurses and care givers on 5 north at the Victoria Hospital. Dad we love you, miss you and you will be in our hearts forever.
