MATHEW (MATT) YASKIW Mathew (Matt) Yaskiw was born on September 3, 1922 to Pete Yaskiw and Anne Komaranski. He was the eldest and a brother to Teenie, Mary, Jean, Stella, Nellie and Stanley. Over the past two years Matt's health had been failing and on September 4, 2012 he was taken to Concordia Hospital. On September 13, 2012 with Helen, his wife of 65 years at his side, Matt passed away. Matt is survived by his wife Helen, sister Jean Ostash, many nieces and nephews and friends. Matt was predeceased by his parents Pete and Anne, sisters Teenie, Mary, Stella, Nellie and brother Stanley, his half brothers Max, John, Mike and Paul. Prayers were said on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Anne's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg. Father Mark Gnutel officiated. Pallbearers were Brad Smith, Orest Buternowski, Stan Yaskiw, Allan Kotelniski, Bill Janson and Leonard Park. Funeral was held on Friday, September 21 in Birtle at the St. Peter's Ukrainian Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Father Mykhaylo Khomitskyy officiated. Pallbearers were Orest Buternowski, Stan Yaskiw, Ed Mychasiw, Brad Smith, Lawrence Yaskiw and Leonard Park. Cross bearer was Linda Stadnyk.
