MARGARETTA ELIZABETH LEMMEN (nee SIMPSON) March 6, 1922 March 16, 2014 Our Mother has always been the consummate parent. Always present, always caring, always giving. Mom had a green thumb and enjoyed making all plants grow to their full potential human plants too! Mom had a creative gift for interpreting images in water color and oil; a creativity that's been passed on to her children. Mom's hands were never idle she excelled at knitting and crocheting and sweaters, socks, scarves, mitts and afghans were ever-present. Many hours of this pastime took place while keeping Dad company during Saturday Night Hockey while Mr. Duff, the Siamese cat, curled up behind her knees and Poppy, the cocker spaniel, at her feet. Mom was an earth mother' and we're so grateful that she was one of the two driving forces in our lives! Besides her husband and children her most precious blessing has been her grandson, Geoff, the miracle baby'. Even though Geoff's now an adult, Mom's closing message has always been "and tell my grandson that I love him". Mom is survived by her daughter Sandra Vincent, her daughter Patti Barnes (Tom), grandson Geoffrey Barnes (Athena) and extended family. Mom was predeceased by her husband Bert, brothers Jim, Lloyd and Bob, brothers-in-law Cory, Stan, Johnny, sisters-in-law Edna, Ruth, Mary, Gladys, Thelma, Jean, sister Dorothy and son-in-law Art. Mom's life was so full this is only a snapshot. Mom was born in and lived her whole life in Winnipeg and was very proud of this fact. Our Dad was also born here; his parents immigrating from Holland to become some of the first market gardeners in North Kildonan. Mom and Dad had a huge circle of relatives and friends and as children we spent our summers on Willow Island, south of Gimli. Many other memories are of cocktail parties in fancy dress, family dinners, birthday parties and Dad tying our skates at the local rink. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Poseidon Care Centre for their kindness and support; we were comforted that Mom lived in your safe care. A private family interment will take place on March 28. 2014. Life may end but memories go on forever we love you Mom. Let your grief be comforted by trust: I'll be near and if you listen to your heart, you'll hear all of my love around you soft and clear ' THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
