GARY LANDAU WOLFSON

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARY LANDAU WOLFSON Unexpectedly, on January 30, 2014, at the age of 74. Gary had suffered a stroke while on a cruise vacation and was transferred to a hospital in Miami, Florida where he subsequently passed away. He is survived by his sister Sarah Armstrong (James), and niece Esther Westbrook, both residing in Vancouver, BC. Gary was born in Winnipeg on December 30, 1939. He attended Kelvin High School and upon graduation was employed by his uncle David M. Copp at Mitchell-Copp Jewellers. In June 1971 Gary was part of an employee group formed to purchase Mitchell-Copp Ltd., then operating out of 315 Portage Ave. He served as the managing partner. The store was relocated to Eaton Place in 1979 until it closed in 1989. During his retirement, Gary enjoyed travelling and spending time with friends and business contacts. He loved a good laugh and had a hearty laugh. He also liked his coffees, newspaper reads and wine on Corydon Avenue, especially on a patio in the summer. He also looked forward to his visits to the Rady Centre for a treadmill walk and a coffee afterward with his friends there. He had a sensitivity and insightfulness to many things. He enjoyed long discussions on politics and sports and in particular had a passion for the Winnipeg Jets. Gary was a very kind and good natured individual and will be missed by those who were close to him. His charitable legacy is remarkable and will benefit others for years to come. The funeral was held at Chesed Shel Emes Chapel with interment at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on February 5. Donations in Gary's memory may be made to the Jewish Federation of Manitoba or a charity of one's choice. A memorial gathering of friends will be held on Tuesday, April 1 at Earls on Main Street (and York) at 7:00 p.m.
