DOT GIBSONOffer Condolences or Memory
DOT GIBSON 1926 - 2014 With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother "GG". Left to cherish her memory are Bunny (Rick) Williamson of Portage; Lori (Larry) Christie of Kelowna, BC; Rocky (Shawna) Gibson of Killarney; grandchildren: Danny (Junko), Leah (Sean), Angie (Guy); Jolene (Micah); Dominique, Michelle (Richie), Chelsea (Jeremy), special granddaughter, Athena Au, and five wonderful great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her former husband, David Gibson, sister Laura, brother-in-law Harold Robinson, and a great grandson, Richard Thomas III and is survived by her brother Eddie (Helen) McShane and family, nephew, Tommy Robinson. Born in Holmfield to Beth and Ralph McShane, her early years were spent moving between small Manitoba towns. She loved the stability her Killarney home provided and enjoyed living in Killarney. Mom owned and operated the Gaiety Theatre, and Shamrock Drive-In for over 50 years. Mom was a hard working, independent lady who loved going to work each night, talking to customers and thrived on the excitement of the drive-in atmosphere. Mom was also a teacher, owned a fabric store, passed her real estate exam, and found time to volunteer. More than anything, Mom loved being a grandma and GG. She spent many summers with a houseful of grandchildren and their friends. All the grandchildren worked in the concession booth once they reached their teens. She taught them the value of working hard, being polite, good table manners, and the joy of picnics in her living room. She travelled, played bridge, enjoyed her dogs, spent winters in Hawaii and played her piano. Mom loved to laugh and will be lovingly remembered for all the support she gave us. Mom's final two years were spent in Douglas Campbell Lodge in Portage. She continued to play the piano by ear up until the last week of her life. Name a song and she could play it. Special thanks to the staff at Douglas Campbell. Words cannot express our gratitude and thanks for the wonderful care she received. A service to celebrate Dot's life is being held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Wheatland Chapel in Killarney, Manitoba at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society, Douglas Campbell Lodge in Portage, or Bayside Personal Care Home in Killarney. We love you Mom! Wheatland Funeral Service (204) 523-7791 - www.wheatlandfs.com
