TERESA (TERRY) PRATT (nee BERARO) April 18, 1958 - March 18, 2014 "I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet." Jack London It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Teresa (Terry) Anne Pratt (nee Beraro): mother, daughter, sister and friend. Terry slipped away on Tuesday, March 18, at St. Boniface Hospital with her two "bright ones" son, Fletcher Russell James Pratt and daughter, Hannah Rose Pratt by her side. She will be missed by her children and their partners Angie and Jimmy; her mother Elfrieda and father Horst; her siblings Arnold (Lisa) and Rosemary (Fred); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, colleagues, and dear friends. As one of the first female Autopsy Technical Assistants in Manitoba, Terry worked on cases at the Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital over the last 16 years, where she was known for her sense of humour and infectious laugh; positive attitude; strong work ethic; and engaging mentorship to pathology students and fellow ATAs. During her entire 30-year career at Health Sciences Centre, Terry drove her commute to and from work only a handful of times, choosing instead to run close to 10 miles each day year round and often carrying a backpack full of food or thoughtfully prepared gifts for others. Family and friends always admired Terry's selfless, altruistic nature and "can do" mentality. Terry was a beloved friend who cherished all her friendships, including those stretching back to school days at Glenwood and Glenlawn, as well as those acquired over the years through work, gardening, running and walking her dogs Pinky and Wilson. The greatest joy in Terry's life, however, was her children. Fletcher (29) and Hannah (26) felt blessed every day to have Terry as a mother; she was the kind of parent who sacrificed everything to ensure their happiness and comfort. Thanks to Terry, Fletcher and Hannah remember their childhood as being filled with unconditional love and constant new adventure. Terry was a permanent fixture in the front row of piano recitals, plays, volleyball tournaments and graduations - supporting every single one of Fletcher and Hannah's endeavors with unwavering faith in the abilities and dreams of her kids. In their adult lives, Fletcher and Hannah knew Terry not only as a mother but also as a best friend. They will always remember her as the greatest love of their lives. Friends are invited to a celebration of Terry's life at the Qualico Family Centre on March 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a short program commencing at 6:30 p.m. To honour Terry's love of gardening, flowers are welcome. Terry's family extend their gratitude to the caring staff in the Emergency and ICU Departments at St. Boniface General Hospital. • I am honored to have known Terry. I would like extend my deepest sympathies to her family for their loss. Although I had never met any of her family before, she often talked of them, and she talked of them with a warmth, and great pride and a love that knew no bounds. Her heart was big. She was extremely well liked because she was a thoughtful, kind and empathetic person who treated everyone with respect. She had a keen sense of humor, and always seemed to be ready for any sort of joke. She was also a hard worker, dedicated, very responsible, and reliable. She was someone you could trust. There are many people here at HSC who only knew her as a co-worker but we all carried a very heavy heart when we heard of her passing because she was dear person. She will be sorely missed. - Posted by: Garry Burgess (Co-worker at HSC) on: Apr 07, 2014

  • Terry had a wonderful and beautiful love for flowers. We both loved dogs. Wilson and Mayja would play together. Pinky came later. I have been south for awhile and just received the tragic news today. I am so sad for her family especially her son and daughter. She was a kind and gentle soul and I will miss her terribly. Please when the memories need to come know how much she was loved and her love of beauty will still with many people. I walked past the yard today and part of her planters are sticking out and I envisioned her out there planting her beautiful flowers. My husband and I are so very sorry for her loss to this world. God Bless you Terry - Posted by: Linda Bartlette (neighbor) on: Apr 03, 2014

  • My family and Teri's friends have a lifetime of memories and the incredible service that was held yesterday was an amazing testament, to how Teri has connected with people over the years and left an indelible mark in the minds and hearts of those that knew my sister. I have no words that can express this loss and I want to thank you all for being so kind. I will be preparing tributes for Teri throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall and if you would like to take part, please don't hesitate to locate me on face book (Rosemary Beraro). We will be celebrating her life for a lifetime. Again thanks for the beautiful tributes to an incredible person. - Posted by: Rosemary Beraro (Sister) on: Apr 01, 2014

  • No words can soothe their pain, but I extend my sincere condolences to Terry's family at this devastating time. My heart breaks for Terry and for her loved ones. When Terry walked into any room it became a brighter place. She was a gentle and beautiful person. Terry was always kind to me and I will miss her. I attended the celebration of Terry's life last evening. The remarks by Terry's children, Hannah and Fletcher, were moving. My heart was breaking for them as they paid tribute to the wonderful person and loving mother that we all knew Terry was. I wish she was still here enjoying her family, friends, garden and pets. - Posted by: Bob Russell (Retired colleague from Winnipeg Police Forensic Identification Unit) on: Apr 01, 2014

  • My deepest condolences to the family. I met Terry and her sister Rose at Glenwood School. Years later we worked at Swift Canadian during the summer months in the late 1970’s. Finally, we crossed paths as employees at the Health Sciences Centre and I was always greeted by her friendly and cheerful demeanor. Beautiful and athletic, I was impressed to see her on her bicycle for her commute to and from work, no matter what Winnipeg’s weather brought rain, wind, sleet or snow, she was ready for the challenge! She had a beautiful smile and a gentle nature. I am so sorry I did not know of the difficulties she faced this past year. I am so sorry of the loss and pain her family is going through as they face their life without this beautiful person. I know she will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate to have known her. Terry, may you rest in peace. Nicole Dubois - Posted by: Nicole Dubois () on: Mar 31, 2014

  • Although I did not work with Terry for very long, I am reminded of her kindness to me (being a new employee), her willingness to take the time and explain certain aspects of working in a Pathology lab to me, and her pretty smile that was omnipresent. Her job as an autopsy assistant no doubt required the expertise and ability not shared by many to perform, but she handled it with professionalism and grace. She will be missed by so many. Sincere condolences to Terry's family, friends and co-workers. - Posted by: Janice Allary (Co-worker at HSC) on: Mar 29, 2014
