Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryENID MAE SMITH (nee BOXSHALL) February 17, 1920 February 10, 2014 Peacefully, in her home, one week before her 94th birthday, Mum passed away. Enid was born in Winnipeg to George and Ruth Boxshall along with sisters Dorothea, Sylvia, Eileen, Shirley and brothers George, Jack and Allen. Mum met Dad, her loving husband of 55 years, Rev Dr. Grant Smith, in her home town of Cartwright MB where they were married on V.J.Day, 1945. We, her daughters Jerilynne (Cameron), Valerie (Ronald), Glenda (Dennis), Cindy (Ian), Neila (Michael) will forever remember our wonderful mother. She lovingly referred to our husbands as her own sons. Enid cherished family dearly. Mum made her home a place we all wanted to come back to again and again. Along with home she dedicated her life to supporting Dad as a United Church minister. In their placements at Cartwright, Treherne, Winnipeg (St. Paul's, St. Norbert, Trinity, and Headingley/St. Charles), Enid joined the choirs and women's groups, taught Sunday school, and joined other events when needed. She particularly enjoyed the Headingley melodramas as prompter and singing on stage for over 15 years. Music was always a part of our family and we were all encouraged to take piano and voice lessons. She loved to hear us sing together and she always harmonized with us in her beautiful alto voice at home, church, camp or in the car as we travelled across Canada and the U.S. Her grandchildren: Jason (Arvilla), Trevor (Kellee), Eric (Jennifer), Brian, Alison (Jake), Allan, Jaret (Nicole), Jeremy (April), Chris (Shannon), Blake, Leanne (Kevin), Adam, Kelsey, Taylor (Claire), and Mitchell (Leah) have been blessed with happy times with Gramma. Mum was thrilled when great-grandkids arrived; Bradi, Sydney, Aynsly, Nathan, Shelby, Elliott and Rowan. Along with Grampa, she attended concerts, games, recitals, trade shows, picnics, and many dinners with the whole family. Their loving relationship inspired us all. We will always remember laughter in the home and her infectious smile. Mum was a creative seamstress and talented knitter creating gifts for her large family. Her pies and baking were beyond delicious, not to forget her jams and jellies, which she shared with all. Enid was also an avid curler at the Thistle and had an 8 ender to add to her many accomplishments. In her later years they travelled abroad, but she truly enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and walks on the beach at the Belair family cottage. We will never forget Mum's endless love, support and kindness. It lives on in her family. Thank you to all the staff and friends of Fred Douglas Place, The Waverley and Dr. Werier who all provided such wonderful care for her. A celebration of her life will be held at Headingley United Church, 110 Bridge Rd., on April 12, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Officiating clergy is Rev. Joanne Kury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rev. Dr. Grant and Enid Smith Scholarship at University of Winnipeg Foundation, 901-491 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2E4 Ph: (204)786-9995 or charity of your choice. We would like to extend our very deepest sympathy to the Smith family on the loss of their mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She always had a smile and a kind word for you. We loved the fact that she knew so many of the old songs by heart. - Posted by: Glen and Maureen Rausch (friends) on: Apr 12, 2014

I had always wished to spend more time with my aunt, but will always cherish the times I did see Aunt Enid. She always had a smile, and it was clear that she and my Uncle Grant were a loving couple who were tailor made for each other. - Posted by: Scott Boxshall (nephew ) on: Apr 07, 2014
