THERESA (TERRY) WINNIFRED PATRICIA SIMONS (nee MCGRATH) February 18, 1929 - March 25, 2014 It's with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Terry, peacefully in her sleep. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Don; children, Sharon (Rick) Stanley and Stephen (Janet) Simons; grandchildren, Scott (Hayley) and Laura Simons and Erin Stanley; siblings Mark (Joanne) McGrath, Audrey (Dick) Kettenberg; brother-in-law, Bruce Ingram; sister-in-law, Edna Simons, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Major J. E. and Agnes McGrath; brother F. O. Earl McGrath; sister, Lillian Ingram; brother and sister-in-law Leo and Joyce Dadalt, and brother-in-law Richard Simons. Terry was born in Winnipeg and spent the first 10 years of her life living in Fort Osborne Barracks and attended Beaverbrook Elementary. In 1939 the family relocated to Strathcona Street due to the war where she continued her education at Isaac Brock and Daniel McIntyre schools. She completed her education at Success Business College where she graduated with a diploma in stenography. Mom's first job was with an insurance company in the Paris building but after a year she moved on to a position in Winnipeg Electric's accounting department. From there she moved to the engineering department where she provided secretarial services to management. She continued to progress through the organization and became the private secretary to the controller, a position that eventually became a part of Winnipeg Transit. Shortly after Terry and Don married in 1954 they moved to Deep River, ON for two years where she started her most important career. Terry was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a fabulous cook and homemaker. Mom had many other interests including crafts, painting, copper tooling, ceramics and gardening Upon their return to Winnipeg they were able to weekend and vacation at the family cottage at Ingolf again. This led Don and Terry to build their own cottage on the property next door where they spent all summers and many winter weekends. The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Links Lodge for the care they provided as well as their kindness and compassion towards Mom. A memorial service will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. on Monday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Diane Guilford officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice. THOMSON "IN THE PARK" 204-925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
