FRANCES EDITH COE (nee WRIGHT) June 8, 1919 - March 17, 2014 It is with great sadness and love that we say goodbye to our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who passed away at Extendicare Lethbridge at the age of 94 years. Frances will be sadly missed by her children, Sharon (Allan) Neville of Lethbridge, Phil Coe Jr. (Sonja d.) of Oakbank, Barbara (Allan) Bayne of St. Pierre, and Laurel (Lyle) Saskowski of Thompson, grandchildren Scot (Marcie) Neville, Lee (Rochelle) Neville, Patrik (Kathy) Coe, Christopher Coe, Robyn (Jeff) Newman, Curtis (Darcy) Bayne, Andrea (Dan) Skjaerlund, Chris (Stevie) Saskowski, Heather Saskowski, and her great-grandchildren, Simon, Emily, Samuel, Chloe, Sophie, Roan, Fenn, Elis, Journey, Hudson, Alanna, Kyla and Tyson. Frances was predeceased by her husband Phil in 1988, and daughter-in-law Sonja in 2013. Frances taught in schools throughout Saskatchewan and Manitoba including Thunderbird, Benito and Thompson. At retirement Phil and Fran moved to Steinbach, Manitoba. Upon Phil's passing in 1988 Frances went on a short-term mission trip to Costa Rica and stayed for six years. From there she settled in Lethbridge, Alberta. Frances valued travel and education and over the course of her life studied at various universities earning her B.A., B.Ed, and Masters in Library Science among other scholastic accomplishments. Frances loved to travel, was passionate about books, and an active volunteer at such places as the Galt Museum, Salvation Army and Bibles for Missions. Frances was a member of the Anglican Church, the Canadian Federation of University Women, Council of Canadians, a staunch NDP supporter and her favourite charities were directed to animal welfare and environmental concerns. Frances was a passionate collector of anything to do with Charles Dickens and some of her vast collection was proudly displayed at the Lethbridge Public Library with most being donated to the University of Lethbridge. We will miss you mom but you leave behind a lifetime of memories that will live on in your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and interment in Steinbach, Manitoba will be held at a later date. Flowers are respectfully declined. In lieu of flowers, your time would be appreciated attending and enjoying your local library.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My mother and I are very sorry to hear about Frances's passing. We had lost contact later after she left Costa Rica. What I can say about Mrs. Coe is that she left an indelible mark on my mother's heart and my own. Besides from being the life saver she was to us when she helped us out of an upfront payment for our mortgage, she was a kind and enjoyable person to accompany and though I was just a child at the time I cherish the moments that we shared together. Mother could finally repay her the money back but we would never be able to match her huge favour of saving our house, which now I own. Frances is a testimony of someone who believes in others and is not afraid to help, a true Christian heart. Though expected by this time, it sorrows me to confirm her passing as an earthly being but I am sure her pure soul and her loving heart are enjoying the fruits of Heaven above. Blessing to her surviving relatives. Be sure you she was worth it all. - Posted by: Andres CedeƱo & Maria Varela (friends) on: Nov 13, 2023

  • Laurel / Lyle and family, sorry to hear of your loss. Your Mom is a very special lady, as you already know. She created a wonderful environment of learning and fellowship that I continue to cherish to this day. Our thoughts are with you... - Posted by: David Mark Crockett (student in the library) on: Mar 31, 2014
