KENNETH FRANKLIN HAWKINS Kenneth Franklin Hawkins, born July 20, 1940 peacefully passed away on March 24, 2014 at Grace Hospital, Winnipeg with family by his side. He will be remembered by his partner Lois Golden, sons Tim (Meagan), Richard (Chelsea), and grandchildren Jacob, Ethan, Sloane and Stella. He is predeceased by his parents Franklin and Marjorie, and his wife Margaret. Ken was born and raised in Winnipeg where he and Margaret raised their two sons. Ken was a public health inspector with the government of Manitoba for close to 40 years until his retirement in 1998. Ken loved a bargain and was always searching for the best deal. His most cherished memories are the time spent at Lester Beach. In the early years he spent his days watching the kids play at the beach or riding dirt bikes on the trails, and more recently enjoyed cocktail hour while relaxing on the deck. Ken often had a gruff exterior, but always a very generous heart. The family would like to thank the staff of Grace Hospital for the care given to Ken during his stays there. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Winnipeg Humane Society. A private funeral service was held on Friday, March 28, 2014.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Most public health inspectors in Manitoba over the age of 35 worked alongside or were mentored by Ken - or "The Hawk" - as we liked to called him :) He was definitely one of the most dedicated professionals within our ranks. He had a keen mind and a memory for details just like a bear trap. His corporate memory with respect to: staff, relationships, historical facts, policy decisions, etc, etc... was second to none. When you were down, he was the type of leader that would notice it and say or do something to boost you up. A true brother in arms. Even during his retirement and health issues, he maintained involvement and connections with his peers. A sad loss to many. Rest in a well deserved peace, Hawk. - Posted by: Stefane Gravelle (Fellow Public Health Inspector) on: Apr 08, 2014

  • Ken and I grew up together and enjoyed our time at Nelson MacIntyre we spent many summers at Falcon Lake where he met Marg. Our families had many laughs over the years. Ken, I'll admit it now -- you're wine wasn't bad at all. Ken was a true friend and will be greatly missed. - Posted by: Peter McLean (long time friend) on: Mar 29, 2014
