HELEN ELVERA MACKEY February 29, 1932 - March 27, 2014 It is with sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Helen Elvera Mackey, 82, of Winnipeg, MB on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at The Golden Links Lodge from cancer. Helen was predeceased by her parents William and Ruth, and beloved brother William. She is survived by James (former husband), her children, William, Michael (Maria), Linda (Robert "Bob"), Colleen (Gordon) and Ruth (Danny); grandchildren, Wayne, Julia, Laura, Erin, Tammy, William, Donald, Tanya and Joseph, and great-grandchildren Jade, Raina, Grayson, Ryder and Aleia. Helen was born on February 29, 1932 in Victoria, BC, she married James Lloyd Mackey in 1953 in Victoria, BC and had two sons, William and Michael. In her early years Helen enjoyed serving as a volunteer in a nursing home. After a few years of marriage the Canadian Military transferred James and family to Winnipeg, MB where three lovely daughters were born. Helen was very busy with five children but managed to find time for such things as sewing, crocheting, knitting and needlepoint which were traits picked up from her mother Ruth. Helen began a new journey in 1966, at age 34, as a single parent. Respectfully, a private, family only service will be held in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's name to the Canadian Cancer Society of Manitoba. The family would like to express our appreciation to Wheeler Funeral Home.
