MARIA LUIESE (MARLIES) KLASSEN
Born: Dec 27, 1953
Date of Passing: Mar 31, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA LUIESE (MARLIES) KLASSEN (nee FAST) December 27, 1953 - March 31, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our "Supermom" on March 31, 2014 at the age of 60. Mom leaves to mourn and celebrate her life, Otto - her husband and best friend of 41 years; their children: Karina (Doug - Jaymi, Isaak, Katie), Deanna (Chris - Mia, Gracie), Marie (Sofia, Jack), Michael (Misty - Seth, Isaiah); her mother, Margarete Fast; father-in law Otto Klassen Sr., and many in both extended families. She was predeceased by her dad Karl Fast, and mother-in-law Kaethe Klassen. Mom's role model was her papa. Karl loved life and God; this was integral to her decision to be baptized in the spring of 1972. In 1968 she met the love of her life, Otto. Four years later, on November 25, 1972 they were married at Springfield Heights Mennonite Church. It was then that Mom's life work and passion began - her own family. She lived every minute creating a household of love, modeled after Christ's love for all of us. The early years of marriage saw the arrival of three daughters, and after much hoping, wishing and praying a baby brother for the girls; the family was complete. In addition to caring for her family, she ventured off to Red River Community College to complete her certificate in Early Childhood Education. Prior to completing her evening courses and raising her family, she was offered a full-time position at Springfield Heights Mennonite Church German Nursery School. For 12 years Mom taught and helped raise over 300 children! Mom left teaching in 1998 and started her own daycare business on Pritchard Farm Road; what a success it was! In 2008 her "daycare" moved to Hawthorne Avenue, right across the street from the school of her grandchildren. The grandkids were the music in her life. Douglas Mennonite Church also played an important role in the life of her family, as she contributed to God's work in many ways: teaching Sunday School, creating "In House" - the after-school drop in program for youth in the community, and serving as song leader and music committee member and chair. The Faith and Life choir was an inspirational group that allowed her to sing. In addition to praising God with music, Mom created long lasting friendships. The choir led her across the province and globe. What a gift! Mom was a blessing to so many who were able to enjoy the open door policy of her home. Thank you, Mom, for sharing your gifts of incredible love with us. Your joy of life was infectious. We will love and miss you forever. A celebration of Marlies' time with us will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday April 5, 2014 at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay Street, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mennonite Church Manitoba, 200 - 600 Shaftesbury Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3P 2J1. The proceeds going to Camps with Meaning.

I was so saddened to hear of Marlies' death. We were the same age, and attended school at Princess Margaret together for 7 years. We were "across the back-lane" neighbours. It was lovely to read about her life. It seems that she made many wonderful contributions to both her family and the church and wider community. How you will miss her! She still had so much to give. My thoughts and pryers are with you as you prepare to wish her a final good-bye. May God give you peace, comfort and, in the long run, many happy memories.
