JAMES GEORGE PRITCHARD 1948 - 2014 It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Jim Pritchard on April 1, 2014 in Vancouver, BC. Predeceased by his parents Peggy and Bill; Jim leaves to mourn his brothers Bill (Diane) and John, daughters Shannon and Heather, nieces Sheena, Shauna, Shasta and family in Scotland. In 1968 while playing for the Winnipeg Junior Jets, Jim was selected # 1 in the NHL draft in Western Canada and #3 overall by Montreal Canadiens. He spent the rest of his career playing in the WHA. Jim was a great story teller regaling people with all his hockey escapades on and off the ice. He will be missed by family and friends. The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Joe's Hospital and Louis Brier Care Home for all their care and support.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • Jim was a hockey hero to me playing for the Monarchs and then the Junior Jets. I'll never forget him in the league playoffs 1968/69 when the Estevan Bruins with Dale Hoganson came to town and down 3 going into the third. Jimmy, standing on one leg, scored 3 from the blue line to tie the game, lost the game, but to the final whistle Jim was taking care of business in front of the net. Often wondered about him, but the October 14 Winnipeg Free Press story of top 125 WHL players without naming Jim, caused me to look for him. Sorry to hear of his passing, but long remembered. - Posted by: Malcolm McEachern (hockey fan) on: Oct 18, 2015

  • I started school at Cecil Rhoodes School with Jim. We were pals and I started playing hockey in Weston with Jim. I remember scoring my first goal ever while playing with Jim, a breakaway while Jim was telling me to pass the puck to him. I decided to shoot myself and it went in. I have thought of that moment over the years. I remember attending a birthday party at Jim's when I was 6 years old. He lived across the street from Weston CC. I lost contact with Jim when I moved to St. James but never forgot Jim. I am sorry he is gone. - Posted by: Brian Marshall (elementary school friend) on: May 22, 2014
