NORMAN O. HEGLAND With family and friends, we would like to share the news that Norman passed away peacefully at his British Columbia home in the early morning of March 31, 2014. Norman is survived by his children Bradley, Gordon, Robert (Thea) and Tracy, his grandchildren Sophie, Chloe, Chad and Lucio, his partner Maria, his siblings Marlene, Dorothy (Mike) and Arthur (Diane), his nieces and nephews, along with the many friends that he has from his 80 years of life. Predeceased are his wife of 30 years and mother of his children, Mary Elizabeth, his sons Ronald and Brian, his brother John, his mother Jenny Adolphson, and his father Ottar Hegland. Norm was a well known aviator and businessman in Canada's north. Being an avid pilot and having a passion for travel, he loved the sense of a new adventure. One of many highlights for him was flying aboard a Concorde across the Atlantic and finally exceeding the speed of sound, quite a departure from the Norseman's and Beech 18's that he spent a good part of his career in, and a story he enjoyed to revisit. The poem "HIGH FLIGHT" by Pilot Officer John G. Magee Jr. had always been one of Norm's favourites and his sentiments are reflected in those words. Norm will be missed a great deal by those who knew and loved him. He is now free to fly high, as he loved to in his life. As per his wishes, there will not be a formal service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your local Cancer Society. Thank you for your prayers.
