WILLIAM (BILL) PENSTON September 18, 1922 - April 1, 2014 William (Bill) Penston passed away peacefully in the early afternoon of April 1, 2014 at the Moncton City Hospital. Bill was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the oldest of three children born to Henry and Marvel Penston. Bill was predeceased by his younger brother George Penston (Edmonton) and has a surviving sister, Sheila Reinisch (Winnipeg). Bill is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anne-Louise MacDougall, four children: Nancy St. Germain (Roger) of Ontario, Shirley Smith (Stephen) of Moncton, Barbara Giroday (Wayne) of British Columbia, and Ron Penston (Nancy LeBlanc) of Pointe du ChĂȘne. Bill and Anne have eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Bill enlisted in the navy as an instrument mechanic specialist based out of Halifax. The war ended prior to his engagement. Bill worked his entire career for Air Canada (43 years), moving from Winnipeg to Montreal in 1964. The airline permitted air travel for vacations, and Dad and Mom enjoyed frequent vacations in Barbados with family and friends. Memorable trips to France (first class on 747), England, Greece and Alaska have been recounted over the years. Upon retirement, Dad and Mom moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario to be closer to their daughters who had moved to Ontario by then. Close enough to visit and play with grandchildren without the day-to-day babysitting service. Dad found great pleasure in playing with and entertaining the grandchildren and family pets. He enjoyed teasing both immensely. Bill enjoyed "tinkering", repairing broken household items, curling, gardening, and showed his creative side with woodworking and stain glass creations. Bill and Anne moved to Moncton in 2008 and reside at People's Park Tower in Moncton, NB. The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff in the geriatric ward of the Moncton Hospital, who cared for our father over the past four months. No memorial service will be held. The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later time. Memorial donations may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital (Geriatric Ward) or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements entrusted to Fair Haven Funeral Home, 1177 Salisbury Road, Moncton, NB (506) 852-3530. A book of condolences may be signed at www.fairhavenmemorial.ca
