ALEXIS SIDNEY JAQUET It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexis Sidney Jaquet on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at the Vista Park Lodge at the age 86 years. Left to cherish Alexis' memory are his wife Mary of 64 years; son Randy and wife Elsie and their children, Jason, (wife Julie and three grandchildren); daughter Chantal (husband Sean and three grandchildren); daughter Darlene and husband Doug and their children Taeyo and Seylene; daughter Suzanne and husband Rob and their children Lorea (two grandchildren) and Trevor; son Blair and his wife Diana and their children Jeremy (two grandchildren) and Justin. On January 5, 1928 Dad was born in Vancouver, BC and moved to Winnipeg shortly thereafter. He attended Norberry School in St. Vital and went on to receive his mechanic papers and worked for several years at Breen's/Century Motors. In 1948 Dad met the love of his life, Mary, and on August 20, 1949 they were married and lived in St. Vital raising their children. In 1952, he changed careers and purchased his first taxi cab (and several others) operating under Duffy's Taxi. Dad loved to drive and said "he put more miles on his cab going backwards then a person drives forward." He served on Duffy's Taxi board as the vice president for many years and was very proud of their service to the public. Dad loved St. Vital and was the King of the Road. His favourite song whom he dedicated these words to his lovely wife Mary "Cab driver drive by Mary's place, I just wanna chance to see her face." Dad was a dignified man, with integrity, a kind heart, loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren. He treated people fairly and with respect and would give his last dime to help anyone. Dad's happiest moments after leaving the taxi business was driving Mom to the shopping centre and working in his flower garden, his backyard was immaculate. In accordance with Alexis' wishes, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and/or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. Wojcik's Winnipeg Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204 897 4665, is in care of arrangements. wojciksfuneralchapel.com Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. Sleep peacefully Dad, we will always love and remember you until we meet again. Love you forever, Mom and your family.

  • Dear Mrs Jaquet and family Al and myself had great respect for Mr Jaquet. We met on many occasions at birthdays for our grandkids. He enjoyed watching his grandson Colby play hockey and took the responsibily of getting his skates sharpened. When we met he loved to reminisce about a cousin of mine who was a friend of his. When ever we saw MR and Mrs Jaquet they were still holding hands, now that is true love. Alexis you will be missed, rest in peace, till we meet again - Posted by: Al @ Elaine (Friend) on: Apr 06, 2014

  • I write this for my Dad and Mom who have both passed. Ed and Evelyn Lawrie will be glad I wrote this. Dad and Alex were on the bench together at Breen's and then Century Motors. When Alex started his Cab business he always brought his fleet to Century Motors for Ed Lawrie, then, Shop Foreman to get maintenance performed. Our Parents' hung around together in 50's, 60's. I believe your Parents' babysat one of my older Brothers when Mom and Dad went on trips. I remember the 70's when Alex would drop by the house at 35 Hull Avenue with one of his units to let Dad listen to it and diagnose an issue that would be fixed the next day at Century Motors. I also know Alex and your Mom enjoyed going for boat rides on my Parent's boat named the Venture. Please pass on our Families condolences to your Mother and balance of your family. For the Lawrie Family Sincerely Gordon N. Lawrie - Posted by: Gordon N. Lawrie (Friend) on: Apr 05, 2014
