ALAN WEBER SCHADEK August 4, 1950 April 4, 2014 Alan passed away after a brave battle with cancer with his family by his side. He was one of four children of Muriel and Dr. William Schadek. Al's loving memories will be cherished by his devoted wife Deb, son Jim (Heidi) and grandchildren Clinton, Kelsy and KatieJunior and Cisco, daughter Nicky (Greg) and granddaughter Jessica. Al will also be remembered by his dear mother Muriel aged 92, sister Ruthann, nephew Aaron (Domanie), and nieces Tara (Ty), Justine and Rika and his large extended family and many friends of whom he loved so dearly. Alan was predeceased by his father Dr. William Schadek, brother Billy, sister Patti Lynn, Aunt Julie and Charlynne. Al was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Silver Heights. He started skating at a very young age at Silver Heights Community Club where his father, Doc Schadek, coached for many years. Al went on to win medals at the Provincial Championships for the St. James Speed Skating Club in the 50s. Al continued to have a need for speed whether it was cars, motorcycles, or snowmobiles. His family moved to Lockport in 1971 to an incredible acreage property known as Havencroft. Al and his father made skating rinks that had trails around the property for all the kids to enjoy. So many happy memories were made with family and the many friends that were always welcome. Al met Deb and the kids in the late 70s, began coaching Jim's hockey team, then Nicky's ringette team. He married Deb and the kids on December 27, 1980, with a reception held at Havencroft. No traditional honeymoon, as first was the Christmas Ringette Tournament, then all four off on a ski trip, with many more to follow. Al continued to coach ringette for over 10 years right to the provincial level. Happiness was enjoying summers on Lake of the Woods at the Island, where a cold beer and a hammer went hand in hand or cruising on the lake with friends. Also having the opportunity to travel to Jamaica, Alaska, Mexico, Cuba, Germany and China to name a few, with friends and family around creating wonderful memories. Al worked many years at the Manitoba Air Division, then Diversey Wyandotte and managed the chemical car wash division at Robinson Pump. Known to all as Mr. Bubbles, he could always be found detailing someone's car or boat in his spare time. This was one of Al's passions to make everything sparkle! He was an amazing selfless man (AL...truistic), his greatest joy was making others happy. Al loved his family very much and lived every day to its fullest. He is too well loved to ever be forgotten. A celebration of Al's life will be held on April 24, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3K 1W3. Thank-you to all his doctors, nurses (Shelli, Chris and Jenn) and the anticoagulation pharmacists at CancerCare. In lieu of flowers please make donations to CancerCare.

Condolences & Memories (17 entries)

  • Debbie: I was shocked to see that Al had passed away and saddened so deeply. Al was a wonderful and caring man and a very good friend of mine throughout most of my life - we lost contact about 20 years ago --- I know how much he loved you and the kids. He was far too young to pass away - God always takes the best guys early. Al will always be a very positive memory for me. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss as I am sure you wanted to grow old(er) with him. Take care of yourself. - Posted by: Jan Leibel (nee Hodges) (Friend) on: Mar 13, 2018

  • Deb, my deepest condolences to you and your family. I'm not sure if you remember me but I believe it was in 2012 Al was a roommate of my Mom's (Joan Goulet) at one of her many stints at the Grace Hospital. You both were so kind to my mom but also our whole family, you both were also a great help to her when one of us wasn't there. She always spoke so fondly of both you. We lost our Mom in October of 2013 to cancer. I was cleaning out one of my old wallets and came across the business card with your personal contact info you gave to my Mom the day she was released. It peaked my curiosity so googled your name and was saddened to hear of your great loss last year. I have no great words of wisdom because daily grief strikes me but my prayer is for comfort and joy for you and your family. Blessings. - Posted by: Danene Goulet () on: Apr 03, 2015

  • Deb, Diane and I were deeply saddened upon hearing of Al’s passing. We extend our most sincere and heartfelt condolences. The way Al lived his life consistently day to day has left an ever lasting impression upon me. He was the best neighbor anyone could ask for. Al had unlimited energy; he was always working around the house, on top of the house/garage, behind the house or in the garage. He had every yard/car care gadget and gizmo you could imagine. Al could always be seen washing or polishing the family cars and boat. During the winter months, I would often awake and Al had already shoveled the rather large area behind his home and many times he shoveled mine as well. Al’s ever present smile and positive attitude could brighten up anyone's day. I was inspired by how upbeat and brave he was with his recent battle. He was a kind and gentle man and never expressed a negative view with regard to his fellow man; always willing to assist, a wealth of knowledge and there to lend a helping hand if needed. Al, you made a difference my friend..... - Posted by: Phil and Diane (Neighbors) on: Apr 21, 2014

  • Sincere condolences to Deb, Jim and Nicky on the loss of Al. One of the kindest, patient men, an excellent ringette coach and so very caring to all the girls. - Posted by: Shawn Telford () on: Apr 13, 2014

  • Al was one of the best ringette coaches I ever had. He was so soft-spoken and fair and you could tell he just had determination. Some of the best memories from my childhood are of my ringette years with Al leading my team. Debbie, Jimmy and Nicky my thoughts are with you at this difficult time as we have truly lost a wonderful kind-hearted, caring man. The memories are what we cherish and the memory of Al wearing the tuxedo at the Provincial play-offs brings a smile to my face and is a memory that will always be part of my heart. - Posted by: Carla Mullin (Kukurudz) (Friend) on: Apr 12, 2014

  • Al was one of my favorite ringette coaches. He was always fair and kind as he was teaching us the finer points of the game. I hadn't seen Al in many years, but when I saw him and Debbie some months ago, I knew instantly he was the same kind man from my childhood. Debbie, Jim and Nikki, I hope the wonderful memories you have of this wonderful man help you through this difficult time. - Posted by: Jackie Smith Neumann (Friend ) on: Apr 12, 2014
