SAUL SILBERT The youngest of 8 children, and the last of a generation, our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Saul Silbert passed away on April 8, 2014 at the age of 92. He will be sadly missed by his sons Michael (Cecily) and Jerry (Kate); grandchildren Heather (Yan-nick), Lisa (Joseph) and Myles; great-grandchildren Jordan, Amélie, Zachary and Etan. Our father, and our Zaida Saul, will be especially missed by his long time special friend - Mrs. Florence Goldberg, her sons, her grandchildren and all of their family. Dad, Zaida was predeceased by our mother and grandmother Sophie (nee Eskow) in November of 1993. He had led a full and wonderful life filled with friends, family, music and more. Among his many careers, he was a Welder, a Shmata business pioneer, and a Concert Violist. He was a professional member of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra for over 28 years. He loved a really good, hot bowl of home made soup, waffles, apple pancakes and playing cards. He was kind, gentle, and the eternal optimist - always smiling, happy and easy-going. Listening to him play his viola was a mesmerizing experience. Our lives were surrounded by his optimism, his love and his music. A special thanks to the hospital and staff both at the Seven Oaks and the Victoria Hospitals for the care given in these last months. We would like to particularly thank Cathy Dela Cruz for all of her love, companionship and time that she shared with him, and with all of us. A graveside service will be held at the Rosh Pina Memorial Park, 2795 Main Street, Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.

  • My sincere condolences to Michael, Jerry and their families in the loss of their dear Dad/Grandpa, Saul. I have very fond memories of growing up next door to Saul and Sophie. They were the kindest and most loving neighbours anyone could ever have. He would pop in for a quick visit to share a funny story or two and would occasionally play the violin while my Dad played the piano for the Card Club.
