• First time I saw Rowan was back in Fall '97 in a Sports Bar in Pembroke, quietly sitting in a corner drinking coffee and watching people playing pool. A week later, a similar picture, this time with his cue by his chair. So we started playing pool most weekends till he had to go to Bosnia. We talked about cars, specially his T-Bird and that he wanted to rent a Porsche when in Europe to drive the Autobahn. While he was in Bosnia my time in Canada ended and I went back to Germany. We only meet once again in late '99 when I was in Ottawa for a weekend. I invited him to visit me in Germany, but we lost track of each other, I think because I was to lazy to write letters and Rowan was not much in using email at that time. A few days ago I found a letter he send me from Bosnia in '98, so I tried to look him up in the net and was dismayed to learn that he past away 6 years ago. • What a dude to not be forgotten. I miss seeing Rowan more times than not when I am walking through the village. He was a staple in Osborne. We shared talks of exploration, the arts, personalities, the human race and how we effect each other. I'll never forget him. Rest easy man. • My belated condoleances regarding Rowan's passing !!! I became fascinated by the Ural motorcycle since I obtained my motorcycle license last summer. I remembered a guy and his dog riding a Ural down Main street a few years ago and I remember giving him the "thumbs up". After googling here and there I found out who he was... and then was sadenned to learn of his demise. The most shocking thing I learnt from reading Rowan's obit is that we are related through the Selkirk Bélanger clan !!! • For some strange reason, a fellow I remember from high school popped into my head the other day, as so it seems, two years to the day after his death...which I did not know of at the time. I started thinking of him again today at which time I decided to google his name, Rowan Horrick. To my horror and disbelief I quickly learned that he passed away, two years ago. I remember him well, we both played the trumpet in the school band, he always talked of how he wanted to join the military and become a pilot. Rowan was an odd fella and didn't socialize with his peers very well, mostly kept to himself. I always admired Rowan for his gentle approach towards others and the angelic sense in which he carried himself. It makes me so happy to hear he was loved by many and that he made such a positive impact on so many lives he touched. I never saw him again after high school, but I will never forget that gentle quiet boy who's smile always made me feel happy. • He taught me how to think outside the box for Martial Arts, the fundamentals of slow-sparring, and he calmed me down, on numerous occasions, when I started getting angry with whoever. We use to go cruising year-round in his URAL, when I first met him, we used his green truck quite a bit. He showed me how amazing food can taste over a fire, how to think of other people before myself, and how not to let the little things, or the big things, in life piss me off. • I will always remeber Horrick driving his Triumph around town and his Aviator goggles. He was a great guy and it was an honour to serve with him. • I did not personally know Rowan; however, I spent every day on my fire escape for the past two summers waiting to see him and Doog fly down the street. In my creative writing course last year, I chose to write a short story about his relationship with Doog. Though I didn't know him, I wish I could have shared it with him. • I knew Rowan over at 3 RCR. He was a quiet soldier who never had anything negative to say about others. He was in my eyes, a quiet professional. I remember the day when he was struck on the head by a baton during riot training with local law enforcement agencies. Though greatly hurt, he tried to soldier on. RIP Rowan. • I met Rowan while training for service in Bosnia, Rowan did not deploy due to the head injury. I was a new member to the army and unit (RCR)and Rowan was always very kind, taking time to show us new guys things and give advise. In later years, he helped me fix a motorcycle when he was visiting Petawawa, generously donating his limited time. Rowan will be sadly missed. Once a Royal, always a Royal. • My deepest condolences to Rowan's family. I knew Rowan when he lived in Petawawa and he was a fun loving guy who was in love with his Ford Thunderbird and loved listening to Dwight Yoakum. Even all those years ago he was a kind generous and loving person who was also willing to try just about anything once, which included getting on a horse which didn't turn out so well, but he had fun just the same. He spoke of his family often and of how much he missed them. I remember him fondly speaking of his brother back home. He deeply loved all of you so much. • Rowan was a light that shined bright! I've known him for the last ten or so years, starting when i was a street kid in the village. he was always there to offer his wisdom and inspiration to me and those who needed it. • For as long as I was around the village, Rowan (typically accompanied by a drooling doog haha) was always around. I honestly felt like I had known him longer than the ten years. He was an amazing *real* person who would literally give anyone anything they needed with little thought to himself. This is the only part that saddens me. He 'forgot' himself at times I think, and for that, I am truly and likely forever sorry. I will never, as long as I breathe, forget what he did for me, he changed my life....and I found only yesterday, the person I am going to try to 'repay' my debt to... on Rowans' behalf. • Shocked to hear of Rowan's passing. I would always see him with Doog in the neighbourhood either going for walks or on his motorcycle. He was a very friendly and kind person and can honestly say I am happy to have known him. To his family & friends my deepest condolences. • Rowan was an incredible painter, which I think should be mentioned above. He was a great person to talk to and hang out with in the village. I regret not having him paint murals in my apartment on Bole. • Dear Rowan's Family; I was very saddened to read of Rowan's passing. I did not know Rowan but as soon as I saw the picture I knew who it was. I travelled through Osborne Village on my way to work and I still remember the first time Isaw Rowan and Doog I laughed out loud as I thought what a cool pair. Also, being a dog lover, I thought how lucky they were to have each other. I would watch for them and whenever I saw them I would again enjoy a big smile. I was in Winnipeg (born there but moved) last year caring for my Mom and was walking the Village with a friend and saw Rowan and Doog and thought they were the coolest duo. I took a picture of Doog and the bike and posted it to my Facebook to share it. They made me smile and I loved the individuality. • I met Rowan just after I moved in with my then boyfriend George. George and Rowan had a very special relationship. Rowan would drop in to visit, talk, eat and help George with what ever he was doing. He would look after our place when we went away, or help with anything we needed of him. Rowan would come over and sit and talk with George when he was going through his cancer. Rowan was as much of a son to him as his own boys. I know that the two of them are together again watching over your families and friends, behave you two. I'll miss you Rowan as I do my husband George. • We did not know Rowan well, but the first time I saw his bike was downtown and I took pictures of it. You could tell he rode with pride. Rowan was quiet, never saying too much, but he did not need to, for his love of Doog and motorcycles says it all about his spirit.
