JOHN RUDOLPH MOHR On Sunday March 30, 2014 at the age of 92, John Mohr passed away with his family by his side. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Goldie Mohr (nee Clark) and his parents, Karl and Katherine Mohr. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Sandra Smith (Ralph); grandchildren: Kimberly Wozniak (Tyler), Jason Smith (Leah), and Krista Fraser-Kruck (Adam), as well as five great-grandchildren: Ava, Emily, Jeremy, Olivia, and Bruce. Born February 18, 1922 in Lemberg, Saskatchewan John was one of 13 children: Evelyn, Leslie, Anne, Minnie, Vi, Norman, Doreen, Lloyd, Eleanor, Georgina, Harvey and Garry. The Mohr family moved from Lemberg to Regina when John was nine years old. When war broke out in 1939, John enlisted in Regina and served in the artillery seeing action overseas in Britain, the Central Mediterrean area, and Northwest Europe from 1939 to 1945. When he returned to Regina from service in the war he started his career with the Federal Government. John loved to dance and he met his future wife Goldie at a dance at the Trianon Ballroom. John and Goldie married and started a family. John spent many hours at the local rink teaching his daughter and the neighborhood kids how to skate. Occasionally he could be enticed into a game of baseball at the local park. In 1971 he and Goldie moved to Victoria, BC, where he retired from his career in 1977 after 37 years. Goldie passed away in 1993 after a battle with cancer. John moved to Winnipeg in 2005 to be closer to his daughter and her family. While living in Victoria he could often be found walking along Dallas Road beside the ocean. He was an avid reader until his eyesight started to fail him, and he enjoyed listening to music, especially classic country. John was a kind, quiet and gentle person. Family was very important to him. His move to Winnipeg allowed him to spend more time with his daughter and his grandchildren and gave him the opportunity to be part of his great-grandchildren's lives. He enjoyed attending family events and celebrations where the family all gathered. Even if he didn't say much you could always tell by the smile on his face that he was enjoying the chaos taking place around him. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Darcy Johnson and to the nurses and healthcare aides at N1 North Concordia Hospital for all their wonderful care and support in his final days. Cremation has taken place and in accordance with his wishes there will be no service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
