STANKA CALICH November 15, 1923 - April 5, 2014 With her family by her side, Stanka passed away peacefully at home at the age of 90. Wife of Radovan (deceased), mother of Sally Calich and Donna Capone and grandmother of Sebastian and Julijana. Stanka was the beloved matriarch to a legacy of tenacious women and one very treasured grandson. Although she is no longer with us physically, we know that she will always be looking over us. She will be remembered for her resilient spirit along with her true generosity and compassion towards others. She was of small stature, but had an enormous heart and was un compromising and independent to the end. Stanka came to Winnipeg from Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1959, settling with her family in Winnipeg's North End where she made man life-long friends. She learned English from watching episodes of General Hospital, got her drivers license in her 60s and endured through the hardest of times with an iron will to stay strong. She found pleasure in cooking and knitting for her family. In her retirement years, she spent time living in Nanaimo and Vancouver and the warmth and beauty of the west coast always held a special place in her heart as did the many friends she made there. Stanka is now at peace, but will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. As requested, she will be cremated and her ashes will be divided between her daughters. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Martin for his compassionate care. Stanka requested no service, tears or frills but wished the best of health and happiness to all her friends and family. Her loving memory will remain in our hearts forever.

  • My KUMA STANKA was the first person I met when I came to Canada back in 1979. We stayed friends ever since. Now, that she is gone to a well deserved rest, I will be holding nice and loving memory of her in my heart, forever. May you rest in peace KUMA. - Posted by: BOZICA KELCEC (Friend) on: Apr 12, 2014
