IRENE MARIE A. MCCONNELL (nee DE LIONCOURT) May 19, 1924 - April 9, 2014 Irene passed away peacefully at Concordia Place on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. She is survived by her four sons: Ron, wife Doreen (Charlene and Edward - Joseph; Jon), John, wife Colleen (Laura and Chris Enns - Luke, Violet; Bill and Elise; Tim), George, Tom (Tyler, Tamara). Irene grew up in St. Boniface and welded for Western Steel during the war. She married Bill McConnell in May 1950. They raised their family in East Kildonan, until Bill's untimely passing in December 1965. In the early 1970s Irene moved to a hobby farm near Libau, with her companion Jack Hay. Later in life she lived in East Selkirk, before returning to Winnipeg. Irene was a very independent woman, was a life-long learner, and liked getting a good deal. Irene was adventurous and traveled extensively on her own. She lived a full life, enjoying Grand Beach, swimming, reading, and painting. She adored the companionship at Concordia Village, The Irene Baron Eden Centre, and finally the caring and compassion of the angels on the main floor of Concordia Place. We are very grateful for the loving care she received. There will be a memorial service for Irene at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at a later date. Flowers declined, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Irene was a good friend of my mom Jean. She was a person my mom could always count on and always shared a good laugh together. As child I remember her as a good swimmer, and I pictured her wearing her black bathing suit and straw hat with the beads. She would also go for cigarette and tea with my mom at the indoor concession on the old wooden boardwalk at 2:00. It was their time together. Maybe they will meet on the boardwalk in another place. She was memorable . - Posted by: Lizette Ptashnick () on: Apr 18, 2014
