PEARL FINK (CHOROST)
Date of Passing: Mar 29, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPEARL FINK (nee CHOROST) Mom passed peacefully, 12 days short of her 90th birthday on Saturday, March 29, 2014 unexpectedly with her family by her side. Lovingly remembered by her children Steven, Gail Katz (Alex), David (Brenda), grandchildren Jordan, Rory (Crystal), Geoffrey, Ashley (Lee) and Travis whom she treated as another grandchild, great-grandchildren TJ, Jace, Paetyn, and Gareth and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Fay and Ben Rykiss. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Manny, parents David and Anna Chorost, sister and brother-in-law Frances and Charlie Cooperman, and nephew Eddie Cooperman. She was born in New York City and lived there for her first 24 years. Mom met Dad when he was on leave from the Canadian Army visiting his cousin in New York. After a three year long distance courtship, they married in 1948 and made their home in Winnipeg. Despite some medical challenges which plagued her entire life, she greeted the world with a smile and a sense of humor. When you were in her company you had her full attention and she was always interested in what you had to say. Many of our friends growing up adopted Mom as a friend or surrogate mother. It was not unusual to arrive home to find our friends at the kitchen table with our mother. It didn't seem to matter that we weren't there. These relationships continued for the rest of her life receiving regular visits and phone calls. She touched so many lives. Her grandchildren adored her and she was their confidante and advisor. She spoke her mind but with kindness and understanding and without judgement. Dedicated to social causes Mom donated generously to many of them. She was a huge supporter of animal causes. She instilled her love and compassion for animals in her children and grandchildren, all who have multiple rescued dogs and cats. She never lost her sense of wonder in nature's beauty, passing this passion down to her family as well. Sharp and bright Mom kept updated on all current events. She could argue with the best of them on virtually any topic but always respected others' opinions. Her iPad was her link to the world, amusing her by following Facebook friends, always leaving behind a pleasant comment. Services were held March 31st. Pallbearers were Jordan and Rory Katz, Mark, Neil, and Leslie Rykiss and Lindsay Berger. Many thanks to the staff at the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence who watched out for her, Dr. Cliff Yaffe for his kindness and caring, and a very special thanks to Dr. Larry Reynolds whom Mom affectionately referred to as her personal angel. If desired donations may be made to Jewish Child and Family Services, Winnipeg Pet Rescue or a charity of your choice.
