SYLVIA ANTHONY July 27, 1930 - March 30, 2014 It is with great sadness and love that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Sylvia, on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at the age of 83 years at the Victoria Hospital Sylvia is survived by her son Michael, grandson Craig, sisters Isabel (Frank) Pyryhora, Theresa (Don) Weiss, Craig's mother Sue, sister-in-law Jean Bucholz, nieces, nephew and dear friend Stephanie Sowak and family. Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Borden in 2001 and sister Stella, mother Mary and father John. Sylvia was born in 1930 in Winnipeg and attended King Edward and Isaac Newton schools. After graduating she worked for a number of years at the Income Tax Office on Main Street where she made many lifelong friends. In 1953 she married Borden in Toronto and moved back to Winnipeg with him to raise Michael. The family spent many years living in their homes on Frasers Grove and Fearn Avenue and later moving to the Valhalla Apartments. Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. We remember the very happy times with Sylvia who was the family humorist, story teller and poet. Her flower gardening and cooking and baking skills are legendary. She loved her daily phone calls from her dear grandson Craig. Her outings with her sisters are fondly remembered. Mom's greatest joy was her family, and she always looked forward to their visits. The family sincerely thanks the staff and friends at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for their kindness and friendship shown to Sylvia and her family. Sylvia thoroughly enjoyed her stay at the Convalescent Home. Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. We will cherish the wonderful years we've shared.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Dear Michael and Craig, I am saddened about the news of Aunty Sylvia. I remember fondly walking to school down Fearn and waving to your mom and dad and having chats with them about the weather and opera! I am so glad mom and I visited with Aunty Sylvia at the Concordia, even then she was cheerful and happy to be around. Love to you and Craig, Susan, Peter, Gemma and Mark. - Posted by: Susan Lawrence (Niece) on: May 21, 2014
