LYALL MULLEN It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dear Dad and Gramps, Lyall Mullen, who passed away on April 12, 2014, in his 76th year. Lyall will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Tara (Greg Hofsted), son Sean (Deanne), and grandkids Dakota, Brynn, Aiden, and Diezel. Lyall is survived by his sisters, Daphne (Bill deceased), Marion (John), Lois (Art), Florence (Avon) and Marjorie (John deceased), and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Vera (nee Morley), sisters Norma and Marlene, brother Ken, son Patrick, and wife Cynthia (nee Defoort). Lyall and Cindy founded Winnipeg Reinforcing in 1975. For 29 years, he and a loyal crew of hard-working men placed reinforcing steel into countless buildings and bridges in and around Winnipeg. To know Lyall was to love him: a devoted family man who knew how to make each one of us feel special, and a friend and neighbor there to help out in any way. He was a trusted person to talk to, always willing to listen and share his wisdom. He was also the best person to horse around with. Wrestling matches and food fights made his day. Generous with his time and all he had, Lyall was thoughtful and caring. He invented the practice of NOG's (non-occasion gifts), and loved the surprise and happiness his gift would bring. Lyall was a music lover, who was known for blasting the tunes and blaming it on the kids. And he was a sports fanatic whose love for the Bombers and Jets was contagious. At Lyall's request, a final service is not being arranged. Instead we ask all who knew him to do something to make you feel young at heart. And if you choose, raise a glass of Sailor Jerry's in his honour. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Lyall, my dear, dear, friend I will miss you for as long as I live. I will especially miss the chin-wags we had at Timmys while enjoying coffee and breakfast. So my friend, wherever you are in the Great Beyond, I hope we will meet again to compare notes and have a hearty laugh. Rest in peace. Till we meet again. - Posted by: Steve Komaranky (A long-time friend) on: Apr 23, 2014

  • I hope you know Lyall how much I love you (and Cindy). Thank you for adopting my son, when I was too young to give him the kind of life he deserved. You were a terrific father for him and you raised him to be a wonderful father also. May you be reunited with the love of your life. Give hugs and kisses to Erin, Dad & Cindy from me. - Posted by: Marilyn Vermeersch (Friend) on: Apr 19, 2014
