ALBERT SPREEN It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Albert August Spreen of Winnipeg on April 8, 2014 at the age of 78, whose free spirit and love of living life inspired us all to live life to the fullest. Al is lovingly remembered by twin sisters Lily and Betty; nephews Lance (Susan), Randy, Brad (Angie), Ken (Cindy), Brian (Barb), Trevor (Sharon) and Martin (Elvina) and many cousins, great-nieces and nephews and friends. Albert was the youngest of five children of August and Charlotte Spreen of Jackfish Lake, MB. Albert was born on the family homestead on July 14, 1935, with sisters Hildergarde, Irma, Lily and Betty eagerly waiting his arrival. Albert lost his mother at the young age of six months and was raised by August until his passing in 1942. At that time the children went to live with Auntie Meta and Uncle Oscar. Auntie Meta was a very important influence in the children's lives and they all loved her for raising them after their parents passed away. Al grew up and was very close to cousin Margaret and she was always a special person to him. Uncle Al eventually moved out west to Onoway, AB for work; where he also had many relatives who lived in the area. Al had many fond memories of his relatives in Alberta and cherished the time he spent with them. Getting together with family was very important to Uncle Al and he enjoyed very much playing cards, laughing and visiting with family. Uncle Al was famous for his Elvis impersonation and teasing his sisters and nephews. In 1995, Al moved back to Winnipeg to be closer with his sisters and six years later retired to spend his time going for walks to the coffee shop, helping family with whatever projects they were working on and his visits to Grand Beach. Al was known for always visiting friends and family when they were in the hospital, which was always appreciated. At Al's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service.
