BERNADETTE GALLAGHER Bernadette Marie Gallagher, 101, of Grand Forks, ND, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2014, at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks. Bernadette was born on November 9, 1912 in Oakwood, ND, the daughter of Silvio and Maria (French) Collette. She married James Gallagher in Oakwood on June 7, 1949. Bernadette was an avid gardener and especially loved zinnias and sweet peas. She enjoyed canning the fruits and vegetables of the summer harvest. She was an adventurous cook, and particularly loved baking. Her chocolate cake and molasses cookies spoiled her family for any other. Bernadette took pleasure in music. She had a beautiful soprano voice and was a member of the Sacred Heart Church choir in Oakwood for over 60 years. She is survived by her daughter Alice (Terry) Osborne, Winnipeg, MB; son Lowell (Jay Geller), Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter, Erin Osborne, Winnipeg, MB; sister Germaine Perkerewicz Schultz, Grafton, ND; brother David Collette, Park River, ND, and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; sisters, Alice and Mary Blanche; brothers, Louis, Lionel, Bruno, Daniel, Antonio, Dominic, and Gerard. Bernadette's family wishes to thank the staff at Parkwood Place and Valley Eldercare, in particular the staff of 400 Unit and the recreation staff, for their compassionate care. Mass of Christian Memorial: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Valley Eldercare Recreation Department, 2900 - 14th Avenue South, Grand Forks, ND, or to a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I did not have the privilege of knowing Mrs. Gallagher but I do have the privilege of knowing and working with Alice her daughter. From the obituary it appears that Alice received her quick wit and 'joie de vivre' from her mother. I enjoy Alice's personal perspective on books and articles that are of interest to many educators and I especially enjoy how she entices us to continue in our love of reading. - Posted by: Janus Bazan (friend and co-worker) on: Apr 24, 2014

  • Alice, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. Over the years you have often lovingly mentioned her. A loved ones passage is never easy. My coNdolences to you and your family. - Posted by: Pat Strachan (co-worker/friend) on: Apr 24, 2014

  • I did not have the privilege of knowing Mrs. Gallagher, but have known her daughter, Alice Osborne, for over 25 years. I am certain her daughter's wit, wisdom, grace and love of beauty are just a few of the legacies that Mrs. Gallagher has passed down, and that these qualities will live on through the loved ones she leaves to celebrate her life. My family joins me in sending our sincere condolences. - Posted by: Raymond Sokalski (Friend) on: Apr 23, 2014
