Back in 1994 Val wrote an article in the Free Press about the Thomas Sill Foundation providing funding to rural Manitoba communities who wished to establish their own community foundations. We got a committee formed and were successful in getting the support of the Sill Foundation and we now have $2,000,000.00 in our endowment fund.Had that article not got our attention we definitely would not be in the position that we are right now.I will be making a donation to the Dauphin & District Community Foundation in memory of Val Werier. My condolences to the family.. Larry Love - Posted by: Larry Love Past president of the Dauphin & District Community Foundation () on: Apr 23, 2014

Dear Judy, Leon, and the entire Val Werier family, please accept our sincerest condolences on the loss of your Dad, Father-in-law, Grandfather, from your physical lives. His writings brought us pleasure, awareness, and different perspectives on all the topics he discussed. We missed his regular contributions to the paper, and celebrated when he 'resurfaced' in print to share his views. His love and pride for all of you was obvious in some of his writings (one about Leon's work on the RRC solar car we still have). Through this sad time we pray you are able to remember the many things that made him so special, and this provides some solace. - Posted by: Harold & Dawn Vokey () on: Apr 23, 2014
