MARGARET ANNE CARR Margaret passed away suddenly on April 21, 2014. She had just celebrated her 77th birthday with her family that evening, and Easter celebrations with some of her closest friends the night before. Margaret is survived by her brother Neill Lyons of West Vancouver; her three children Cindy Robison (Eddie) of Lubbock, Texas, Donald Carr (Jenn) of Nanaimo, and Janet Fraser (Jeremy) of Calgary, nephew Stephen Lyons of Vancouver, along with her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer, Caitlyn, Emily and Heather of Calgary, Kidran and Kaleb of Lubbock, and great-granddaughter Lucy of Lubbock. Margaret was born April 16, 1937 to parents Ada G. Lyons (O'Neill) and Robert JW Lyons, and was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She attended Kelvin High School and went on to earn a nursing diploma from Winnipeg General Hospital, in 1960. Margaret was married in 1961 and shortly thereafter she and her former husband Dr. William GL Carr relocated to the West Coast. Lantzville was their first home, and shortly after, moved to Nanaimo, where they raised their three children. Winnipeg always remained her home away from home, and she often spoke fondly of being a prairie girl. Margaret was a unique and gregarious soul, full of life and love for those around her. Proud of her Irish heritage, she was generous with her time and her love, and always willing to lend a hand, her time, or her companionship. She was an active member of Brechin United Church in Nanaimo, and involved herself in many volunteer endeavours over the years. Like her mother, she was an accomplished pianist, a gifted soloist, and was passionate about music in general. She sang in the church choir, accompanying others on the piano whenever the opportunity arose, and was proud to share the gift of her voice with others. Her sudden passing has left us all with a deep void in our hearts and no words to express our sorrow. We will remember her as a beautiful spirit, willing to share a laugh, a joke, a meal or simply some time together. She was a beloved mother; caring sister; devoted grandmother, and a fierce friend to many. She will be missed but never forgotten and her memory will prevail in the many relationships that she has forged throughout her life. A service will be held at Brechin United Church, 1998 Estevan Road, Nanaimo, (250) 754-9212 on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends wish, donations can be made in Margaret's name to Loaves and Fishes, or BC Conference-United Church of Canada. The family wishes to thank all friends and extended family for the well wishes and condolences offered.

  • I met her when I first started volunteering at Loves and fishes. She stuck up for me. She was like a mother figure to me. I will miss her, we had great stories, went for coffee, she was always there for me. I will love her and miss her deeply. - Posted by: Coleta Cranton (friend ) on: Apr 29, 2014
