Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET MAKOTA July 5, 1926 - April 21, 2014 With great sadness we announce the death of Margaret Makota of North Tryon, Prince Edward Island, aged 87, at Prince County Hospital in Summerside on April 21, 2014. Formerly of Winnipeg and Grand Marais, Manitoba. Left to cherish Margaret's memory are daughter Daria Valkenburg (Pieter), son Gary, granddaughter Kalyna and her mother Jennifer Kitchen, sister-in-law Helen Stasiw, brother-in-law George (Maria) Makota, and sister-in-law Sophia Makota. Predeceased by her parents, her husband Wasyl with whom she shared 60 years of marriage, son Tony, brothers-in-law Anton and Alexander Makota, and sister-in-law Joanne Feduniw. Margaret was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the daughter and only child of Joseph Nawalkowski and Pelagia (Bessie) Makarec. In 1950 she met Wasyl, the love of her life, at a church picnic in Winnipeg and they married a year later. Margaret was a homemaker for many years, and never met a recipe book or kitchen she didn't like. She loved to cook and was very sad when ill health did not allow her to continue her culinary adventures. For many years, Margaret and Wasyl ran Playland Amusement Park in Grand Marais until her ill health caused them to retire. The many years of interacting with people at Playland helped develop the uncanny talent she had of remembering people and their names! Margaret and Wasyl built their dream retirement home in Grand Marais and lived there until Wasyl's serious illness in 2011. In August 2011, they moved to Prince Edward Island where their daughter and son-in-law live, and Margaret continued living on the island after Wasyl's death in 2012. The family would like to thank Dr. H. Visser and staff, the Prince County Home Care Program, the South Shore Villa, and the Palliative Care Unit Nursing Staff at Prince County Hospital. Funeral Celebration of her life will take place on Sunday, April 27, 2014, at South Shore United Church, Tryon at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Tryon People's Cemetery. In memory of Margaret, donations may be made to Prince County Hospital Foundation Palliative Care Unit or the Residents Activity Fund - South Shore Villa. Arrangements entrusted to Dawson Funeral Home, 32 Rte 13, Crapaud, PE C0A 1J0. www.dawsonfh.com
