PAULINA (LENA) MAKSYMCHUK February 3, 1923 April 21, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Lena Maksymchuk, announce her passing on Monday, April 21, 2014, only 19 days after her beloved husband Peter. Aunt Lena was born in Poland on February 3, 1923 to Eliasz and Julia Borislawski. Left to mourn her passing are sister-in-law Anna Maksymchuk, numerous nephews and nieces in Ukraine, Poland, and Canada as well as many dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, her parents, her brothers Leon, Junic, Victor, sister Emily and extended family in Europe. Aunt Lena endured a very difficult early life having survived the war in Europe. She was ambitious and had a great love for learning and became a bookkeeper at a bank. In 1966 she married Uncle Pete and immigrated to Canada to begin a new life. It was not easy adjusting to farm life which included milking cows, picking rocks, making hay, and taking care of household duties. She was determined and persevered - learning how to drive a vehicle and tractor and always worked beside Uncle Pete. Aunt Lena was an extremely talented person. She learned the English Language and worked at Promo Wear, a sewing factory. Besides being a farmer, gardener, and seamstress, she was a quilter. She knit many beautiful Icelandic knit sweaters. Using her creative skills, she sewed fancy doll clothes, toys, made beaded jewellery and egg crafts. She was a wonderful cook and baker, making the best tortes that would win any contest. She was a very gifted and giving person. In her 15 years at the Arborg Personal Care Home, she was Aunt Lena to all. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff for their excellent care and compassion and to everyone who sang to her. Aunt Lena was a devoted Ukrainian Catholic. It was her strong faith, prayers, and Uncle Pete's love and devotion that enabled her to continue her peaceful life at the Care Home. She said, "My heart is crying for my Peter." They are now together for eternity. Her pallbearers will be Michael Maksymshuk, David Maksymchuk, Neil Kordalchuk, Nicholas Krawchuk, Nathan Pastetnik, and Cory Serediuk. The honorary pallbearers are Don, Roger and Jerry Maksymchuk, Larry Serediuk, and Rick Kordalchuk. Vichnaya Pam'yat We love you. Aunt Lena! Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at MacKenzie Funeral Home in Arborg at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Okno Cemetery.
