ANN JANE (BAIRD) EDGEWORTH October 21, 1924 - April 24, 2014 Ann was born in Johnstone Renfrewshire Scotland. She passed away at the Portage and District General Hospital due to pneumonia complications. She was predeceased by her loving husband George in 2003, twin brother Jack in 1925, parents John and Eliza, brother Andrew, sister Betty, sisters-in-law Margaret Lapsley, Lillian King, and Adelaide Leonew, brothers-in-law Jack King and Walter Leonew. She is survived by sons, Dick (Brenda) of Shoal Lake and Ian of Edmonton. Ann married George on December 17, 1945 in Paisley Scotland. She came to Canada in August 1946 as a war bride. Her first trip back to Scotland was 21 years later in 1967, accompanied by her son Ian. She and George made subsequent trips to Scotland and Europe in their retirement years. Her last trip "home" was in 2005 accompanied by her son Dick. Ann and George lived in Winnipeg and Portage for a short time before moving to Longburn District in 1948 and then moved to Westbourne in 1954 and finally Portage in 2002. While living on the farm in Longburn Ann taught Sunday School at the Longburn United Church. After the move to Westbourne she became involved in the Presbyterian Ladies Aid, Skating Rink Committee and in her later years assisted in 4-H cooking classes. Ann's working life outside of the home started in 1964 at the Campbell Soup Plant until her retirement. During this time she met many life long friends and acquaintances. Ann was a life member of the Langruth Legion. She was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church in Portage. A long time member of Electa Chapter #20 of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Red Hat Society. Mom really enjoyed her trips to the casino and playing cards at the Herman Prior Senior Centre. As per Ann's wishes, a graveside service will be held at the Longburn Cemetery on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch to follow in the Westbourne/Longburn Community Hall. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, The First Presbyterian Church, Portage la Prairie or the Longburn Cemetery Fund. The Edgeworth's Family would like to thank the staff of the ICU at the Portage and District General Hospital, ambulance staff and the home care workers for their tremendous efforts of care and support for Ann and her family. We enjoyed your mom as we met her at the reunions in Westbourne in recent rears; but remember her most from our years in Westbourne. She was involved in everything that went on there.
