BOHDAN ANDREW TYMO August 20, 1950 - April 9, 2014 With heavy hearts and deep sorrow we announce the passing of Bohdan Andrew Tymo at his home in St. Andrews. Bohdan will be sadly missed by his true love and partner of 32 years, Carol Anne Barker. Left to grieve is his sister Lesia Esposito. Lesia has three sons, Robert (Stefanie), Daniel, Christopher, and her husband Orlando. Cousin Orest Stefaniw will be lost without him. He was predeceased by his beloved father Andrew Tymo (1986), and treasured mother Maria (2007). Bohdan attended Sisler High School and graduated in 1968. While there he played on the Sisler Spartans football team. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a BSc in 1974 and a BComm (Hons) in 1976. While attending the University of Manitoba he worked for the City of Winnipeg to pay for tuition. He had wonderful experiences on "Ed Bakers Crew" working on boulevards, in parks and learning about landscaping. He really respected Ed because of his strong work ethic. He loved sports and played hockey and soccer with the Ukrainian Students Club. While playing hockey the team travelled to New Jersey to play against their Ukrainian team. This was quite the trip. During their stay they were treated like royalty. He started soccer early on and played with I.P.A.C., even made the newspaper blocking a shot from a Portuguese player. The newspaper articles were found after his passing. Bohdan also played soccer with Sokol and later was on the M.S.S.L. champion team - the Manitoba United. He enjoyed playing beside his buddy Gus Foster. Bohdan travelled across Europe after graduation with his dear friend Zenon Romaniuk. The adventures they experienced were still spoken of to this very day. They also went on downhill ski trips to Alberta, British Columbia and Montana. Cross country skiing was also a favourite. His last hockey team was the Blues (I.M.O.H.L. League) in 2007. A badly torn ligament ended hockey. Bohdan was very proud of his Ukrainian Heritage. Also, proud to be a North End guy. In 2009 while working on a roof he fell and sustained a traumatic brain injury. Most sports were out of the question. He loved his pets and taking very long walks with his beloved dog. He started work in the T2 section of Revenue Canada in 1980. Later he was a permanent fixture at Ann's Perogey Palace bringing him back to his North End Ukrainian roots. There did not seem to be anything that he could not do, from plumbing, building and landscaping. He would talk about electrical and other projects with his friend Wayne Ledwos until the early morning hours. Bohdan was an outstanding gourmet cook and baker. This was something that only a treasured few knew. He was also the most opinionated person you will ever meet. This was said with love. A "Celebration of Life Luncheon" will be held at the Kildonan Hotel - Copa Banquet Hall, 2100 Main St. on Wednesday, June 4 at 11:00 a.m.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I was very shocked to hear of Bohdan's passing he was always in great shape, the athelete that he was. He was a great friend, and a great guy to know. In the mid 70's my two daughters Shelley and Connie had a crush on Bohdan. They liked his long blond hair as it flowed in the wind. He would like the attention and would come over to tease them. They were only 6 and 3 at that time. Bohdan traveled with the team to Thunder Bay and we won all the games that we played their. How time has gone, yet the loss is still their and we do my wife Barb and I send our sincerest condolences to all his family. Rest in peace Bohdan. - Posted by: Paul Wolfe (Old soccer buddy from the 1970's (IPAC) we played together on this team) on: Jun 12, 2014

  • I've known Bohdan for over 50 years. We played hockey and soccer together for the Ukrainian Students Club while attending University of Manitoba. Later, we both played with I.P.A.C. Ukraine soccer club. He was always very competitive in anything he did. We spent time in Europe together. I`ll always remember the the ski trips to Alberta, BC and Montana. He will be greatly missed. • It is with great sadness, to hear of Bohdens passing. Bohden was a steadfast neighbour, projects abound at all times. A kind soul to our numerous pets over the years and to his own. I always knew that if I needed someone's help, I could count on Bohden. There are many fond memories of "between the trees" conversations, and the "words of wisdom" that he shared. He always took an interest in the growth of my sons, and mine too, which will forever be remembered. He always supported me in my good and bad times. It was with sadness that I had to leave my home 6 years ago, and my many neighbours that grew up with us..he will be very missed in the neighbourhood I'm sure. Carol...take strength, he is at peace now. - Posted by: Lynne McKenze ( formerly Lynne Sawchuk ) (St. Andrews next door neighbour for 21 years) on: Apr 30, 2014

  • As a friend of Bohdans for 40 years we went through a lot together. We kept in contact with each other when possible in person but mainly on the phone talking long late night hours about our 40 year memories and up comming projects. As an electrician I had numerous renovation projects planned with him but unfortunately that was cut short.Bohdan left us too early and had many more productive years left and I will miss him dearly.I will miss our time together and the long late night phone conversations that will never occur again. I have 40 years of memories that I will always cherish. My sincerest condolences to Carol, family and friends who knew him. Hopefully when the time comes I will see him again. REST IN PEACE OLD FRIEND! - Posted by: Wayne Ledwos (Friend) on: Apr 27, 2014

  • I had the pleasure of knowing Bohdan in my teenage years in high school and university. We played soccer and hockey together in university and he was a tenacious competitor. I loved his drive and perseverance. No one worked harder than Bohdan! He was a good friend although I hadn't seen him in years. I'm am saddened to hear of his passing. My sincerest condolences to Carol, his family and friends and wish you all strength during this difficult time. Vichnaya pamyat'! - Posted by: George Dlugosh (Friend) on: Apr 26, 2014
