It is with sadness that our family announces the passing of a wonderful, caring and gentle wife, mother and Omi; Alice Adline Mahler, beloved wife of Friedrich (Fred) of Calgary, peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the age of 84 years. Alice was born in Hague, Saskatchewan, the sixth of 12 children of Johan and Elizabeth Lesser. The Lesser family were a very loving farming family in the Hague region, active in the community and committed members of the Lutheran Church. In 1946, Alice moved in with the Raths family in Rosthern, Saskatchewan to help with the children of the local Lutheran minister and later moved with them to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Alice is fondly remembered by the Raths'. Alice began working at the Winnipeg Clinic in the fall of 1948 where she had great satisfaction assisting a number of doctors administering primary care. Alice met Fred in 1956 through the young adults group at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Winnipeg. Their relationship was one for the ages, two souls completely in sync. They were married on October 26, 1962. Stephen was born in 1964 and Thomas in 1965. Alice loved "her boys" and was very involved in teaching them what is important in life. This close knit family shared many great times together, from the early years in Winnipeg and London, Ontario, returning home' to Winnipeg in 1974. Alice later returned to work for the Winnipeg Clinic where she shared great relationships with the doctors and staff. The boys moved away to start their careers in the early 1990s. During this time, Alice shared her love of caring for young children with a number of Winnipeg families. Alice and Fred moved to Calgary in 1996 to help raise their granddaughter MacKenzie who was born to Stephen and Nancy. Alice will be remembered by her dear husband Fred, her son Stephen and daughter-in-law Nancy and their daughter, Alice's cherished granddaughter, MacKenzie of Calgary, her son Thomas of Calgary, her brother David and her sisters Cecilia and Gloria.
