JANE VOLKERS (nee GRAY) August 28, 1925 - April 30, 2014 It is with great sadness that the family of Jane Volkers announces her passing April 30, 2014 at Trinity Village Care Centre, Kitchener, at the age of 88. Jane was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. There she met the love of her life, Barry Volkers, and together they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Jane was recently predeceased by her kind and devoted husband on February 3, 2014. Jane was a loving mother to Grant (Michele Rakich) and Jan (Karen Pal) and will be greatly missed. She will also be missed by her nephews and niece and extended family. Jane is predeceased by her parents, James and Sarah Gray, stepmother Doris Gray, and brother James (Jimmy) Gray (1945). Jane will always be remembered as a kind and generous person, with a great sense of humour and love for animals. We wish to express our sincere thanks to the Trinity Village Care Centre and all the wonderful staff for their care, compassion and support. Arrangements entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Cremation has taken place. A private interment service will be held for family and friends at a future date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home). Visit www.henrywalser.com for Jane's memorial.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I have thought of The Volkers, on and off, since We all came to Ontario from Manitoba! Most curiously, I have resided in Kitchener for 24 years, and the last 10, my Mother, soon to be 90 in October has lived with Me. I have fond memories of our childhood times together. Take very good care, and I am sorry for your losses this year. Marc - Posted by: Marc P. Stanley () on: Jul 18, 2014

  • Dear Grant and Jan: We are so sad to hear of the passing of your parents and so grateful it was in the Winnipeg paper. Auntie Ruth Gray was the one who kept in touch with family and when she passed away all was lost. Do you remember when Grandad Gray, Auntie Ruth and I visited your family in Oakville in 1971? I remember you kids so well. Of course you aren't kids anymore! Bruce's Mom, Peggy, passed away a few years ago at the age of 96. Your parents got to know Peg, Jack and the boys, Bruce and Glen very well when they all lived in Kelowna. The only Gray left from our branch is Auntie Florence Yakel who celebrated her 94th birthday a few months ago. She was the feisty Gray girl and still is!! If ever you are in Winnipeg, you would be most welcomed. You have our email address. Your Mom and Dad's life was truly a 'love story'. God bless and keep you in His tender loving care. Sincerely, Bruce and Ellen Bancroft. - Posted by: Bruce and Ellen Bancroft (Second cousin to Jane.) on: May 05, 2014
