DR. RON VERRALL September 29, 1941 April 21, 2014 Ronald Ian Verrall was born in Winnipeg and grew up on a farm in Sanford, southwest of the city. The skills and resourcefulness he learned on the farm stood him in good stead for life; he could build and repair almost anything. He loved life, learning, and good times with friends and family. He always had fun. He received his BSc and MSc in Physics and Math at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg and his PhD in Physics from McGill in Montreal. He worked for over 30 years at the Defence Research Establishment Pacific in Victoria. His work took him to the arctic every year. Interesting webpages containing stories of his work and life in the High Arctic can be found at arcticnewsletters.com. Ron was predeceased by his father and mother, Harry and Nita Verrall, and his brother, Richard Verrall. His wife Jennifer, daughters Jane and Helen, son-in-law Peter Say, sister Barbara Parke, her husband Ross and son Gord and his many friends are celebrating Ron's life on May 8, 2014 at the Fleet Club in Esquimalt near where his work lab was located. The picture shows Ron in a Hercules heading to Alert, NWT. I think he could hardly wait to get there.

I went to school in the same grade as Barbara and Richard( until about grade 5 I think) and always remembered you and your family. How time passes and life changes. Sincere sympathy to your family. - Posted by: Sandra Coleman(Herkert) (School friend) on: May 21, 2014

  • I'm sorry to hear of Ron's passing, Barbara. I had not heard of Richard's death. So much loss in one year. Each time I go to Sanford and pass over the bridge, I look for the Verrall house. It will always be your family's in my mind. My thoughts are with you all today, on on the 8th, and with your beloved parents. - Posted by: Linda Rodgers (cousin) on: May 05, 2014
