JOHN T. GOLAS Our Uncle John (John T. Golas) from Fisher Branch passed away on April 29, 2014, to go home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our Uncle John is precious and kind Taking time for his nieces, nephews and mind From tilling the fields to trips to the North And Island blueberry picking without remorse. John Deere tractors...large ones, small ones No other kind will make the runs Working the fields where trefoil abounds Cutting the grass or just riding the grounds! Centennial year, silver coins for the boys Other times, bags of candy, what a noise Hot summer days, a ride on our bike Where to? His place... a 3-mile hike Sunday service, his favourite chair Right in the corner, comfy and square Mealtime: buns, casseroles, crispy chicken and rice But buckwheat cabbage rolls sure would be nice Uncle John's white house, prayer meetings were held Lots of singing and prayer, where we'd be compelled After spiritual filling, came the physical meat Salami, mustard, fresh rye bread couldn't be beat His new house a wood basement it had Plenty of room for the gentle old lad Painted green and fushcia, oh what a sight Matching his flowers, so lovely and bright. His garden plot is very well worn Potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers and corn From garden fresh to pickled or canned The best pickle recipe was his own brand Our Saturday Night Special so delicious in our tummy Was made with his tomato juice which was so yummy Visits to his house were of the unknown Admiring his gardens to chasing rabbits alone He'd get so ticked with us if his rabbits were gone We hoped they were only out on the lawn. His 90th birthday, what a treat! Pizza, dainties and birthday cake to eat His smile spreading from ear to ear As he huffed and puffed..oh dear A stay in the hospital, blankets were not enough So he wore thermal socks and his parka, it was rough He loved having company, the more the merrier Even though the sign stated 2 at a time, it wasn't a barrier Uncle John loves Jesus, so true and so kind Give Jesus a call, when things are on your mind Telephone to glory oh what joy divine You will feel the current moving on the line Made by God the Father for His very own You may talk to Jesus on this royal telephone. His soul is gone and he is at peace. Praising God for Uncle John's love of Christ here on earth! Uncle John, we love you! Niece, Donna
