Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR BENOIT FOUILLARD Arthur Benoit Fouillard, peacefully passed away the evening of April 7, 2014 aged 93 years, at the Birtle Hospital. Arthur was born August 31, 1920 in St. Lazare, Manitoba. Arthur was the second child of Eugéne and Hélène (Simard). He had nine siblings, three sisters and six brothers. Arthur was a happy little boy and very driven from a young age. This was demonstrated at age 13 when he began working in the family business started in 1908 by his father, which he and his brothers took over as Fouillard Implement and Exchange Ltd. in 1953, as well as operating the grain and exotic cattle farm ALE until his "retirement" in 1987. His love of farming resulted in the move to a new house on the farm in 1992, in 2012 he moved to Lion's Corner in Birtle spending just a few months before the move to Birtle Hospital in December 2012. Arthur served four years in the army, stationed at Victoria, BC and was involved in many boards over his lifetime including the Vet Board and Hospital Board. Was one of the founding members of the St. Lazare Knights of Columbus council #5047. During his time served as Mayor, 1960 to 1967, he was instrumental in getting the Bank of Montreal to open a branch in St. Lazare in 1965. Cherished and lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Christine (Decaire), nine children Michele (Tom Anderson), Danielle (James Moreau), Guy (Janet), Marcel (Jean), Mona (Dave Motuz), Jacques (Teresa), Mario (Rhonda), Juliette (Armand Pitre), Joel; 29 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; siblings Alexandre, Hélène and Rose-Marie. Arthur will always be remembered for his thoughtfulness, generosity and love of family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A very special thank you goes out to all the wonderful staff of Birtle Hospital, the family greatly appreciate all the care that was provided. Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, April 12, 2014. Interment followed in the St. Lazare Cemetery. Donations in Arthur's name may be made to Alzheimer Society Canada or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
