ANITA CATHERINE MOVOLD (nee MCEACHERN) November 30, 1930 - May 1, 2014 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Anita was born to Clarence and Mary Catherine McEachern in Tompkins, Saskatchewan, where she grew up with her older brother Malcolm and younger sister Madeline, on the family farm. Anita and Madeline made the brave decision to leave their parents and the farm life, venturing to the big city of Vancouver in 1954, to find their independence. In 1955, Anita decided to try out the great north and moved to Whitehorse, where she found both work and her soon to be loving husband, Albert. On December 26, 1956, Albert and Anita were married in Tompkins, surrounded by their families. In the winter of 1957, the happy couple left Whitehorse for warmer climates and the beautiful west coast region of Texada Island, to start their family. Anita grew to love her life on Texada, raising the children, attending school functions, making life-long friends, playing bridge and the family outings to Shelter Point beach or one of the lakes on the Island. Anita loved to travel with her family; they took many a road trip with father at the helm of the great suburban, and mother watching over her precious cargo, five adoring children. The summer vacations led them back to the family farm in Saskatchewan, adventuring through British Columbia with detours through the northern United States. After 21 years on Texada, they moved to Chetwynd, BC where Albert worked until it was time to retire. With all the children gone from home, Albert and Anita retired to Vancouver and then on to Nanaimo in 1990, where they have lived the past 24 years. For 17 of those years, the children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews always converged on "Mom and Dad's" for any and all celebrations, birthdays and anniversaries, and of course Anita's favourite holidays of Easter and Christmas. Many backyard barbeques were had, and many garden planting sessions were held. Anita loved her flowers and gardens, and growing peas and tomatoes were always at the top of the list. Anita was truly devoted to her family, and stayed in charge until she passed. Anita is and always will be in our thoughts; many happy memories will make us smile even as we mourn her. Anita is survived by her husband, Albert, her children Cindy (Steve) Macdonald, Michele (Larry) Campbell, Craig (Diana), Mark (Margaret), and daughter-in-law Minda, and her grandchildren Anna, David, Krystal, Kevin, Rozanna, Hannah, Liam, Luke, Antonio and Rachel. Anita is predeceased by her parents, her sister Madeline Upton, and her son Ronald Movold, March 20, 2014. There will be a service to celebrate Anita's life at the Trinity Catholic Church, 6234 Spartan Road, Nanaimo, BC on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Aunt Anita was an extraordinary woman who had a special place in the hearts of all who knew her. Our family has such fond memories of her along with Uncle Bert and her dear family visiting the farm. Auntie had a keen appreciation for nature and the hills that surrounded the homestead. She was always interested in what everyone was doing. She will be missed but never forgotten. - Posted by: The McEachern family on the Saskatchewan prairies.
